A Message from our CEO

It won't have escaped your attention that the news is quite worrying at the moment, particularly for people with disabilities. We would like to reassure you that we are still here to support you with anything you are having trouble with, so please don't hesitate to get in touch with us for advice and help.

And the eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that there was no August newsletter. This is because we have decided to bring our newsletter out at the beginning of the month so you have information for the month ahead. We hope you enjoy the September issue!

Have Your Say On Important Issues

As we head into the winter months and the cost of living crisis is felt even more acutely, it is more important than ever for the voices of disabled people to be heard on the issues that affect us.

Disability Assist has always worked hard to represent the viewpoint of disabled people across Kent and we want to hear your thoughts and opinions. There are a number of upcoming opportunities to share your views and you can find more information about those by clicking the link below.

We want to hear from you about anything that is worrying or affecting you at the moment, so please get in touch with us and have your say.

Kent County Council is inviting you to have your say as part of the Budget Consultation for 2023-24. You can share your views on Council Tax as well as ideas on how further savings can be made. Find out more at https://letstalk.kent.gov.uk/budget-consultation-2023-24

The next Government cost of living payment is due to be paid soon. If you are eligible and in receipt of certain disability benefits such as PIP, DLA or carer's allowance, the payment of £150 will be sent after 20 September, with the majority of people receiving them within the first couple of weeks of October via the same method that you usually get your benefits or tax credits.

As the cost of energy soars, the Government has created the Energy Bill Support Scheme to help with the increased cost. Almost all households will get £400 this winter and, for most, the grant will be automatically paid to your supplier between October 2022 and March 2023. Get to know Disability Assist!

When you get in touch with us, your query will be answered by one of our experienced team members.  We wanted to introduce ourselves so you know who you are speaking with. You met our CEO, Sophie, last month and this month is the turn of our Senior Information Officer, Donna Francis.

Donna has been working for Disability Assist for nearly 16 years.  Over that time she has seen a great deal of change and is excited at how far Disability Assist has come and the support we now offer.

Donna is passionate about supporting disabled people to get what they need to live the lives they want, and she firmly believes that we all have potential. She has never let her disability stop her from living life and wants others to experience the same. If you are in the East Kent area, you are likely to be supported by Donna, who also manages our team of Information Officers.
