Annie Wilson and her band Tallgrass Express have completed a major songwriting and recording project. “Out on the Tallgrass Prairie” is a double album with 32 songs - an epic addition to their “Songs of the Flint Hills” series – now 88 songs in 6 volumes. They plan to perform many songs from the new album.
With all songs by rancher-songwriter Wilson, this album explores two sides of Flint Hills life on double discs of 16 songs each: Land, Plants, & Animals, and People on the Land. Songs tell stories about cowboys, cowgirls, ranch families, horses, cattle, wildlife and especially the scenic beauty.
There are fun songs for “kids” young and old, such as “Turkey Buzzard Bob” and “Prairie Chicken Pete,” and heartfelt songs such as “Prairie Prayer” about the need to conserve this beautiful landscape.
Wilson remarks, “I was so lucky to have my talented partners Carl Reed and Derrick Doty on this enormous project.” Carl Reed, on vocals, bass, harmonica and guitar, is also a songwriter also provided invaluable advice on song arrangements and will join Annie at our event.
This is the 20th Anniversary of Tallgrass Express; they will also be having a public celebration and concert later in the year at Pioneer Bluffs on Sept 8th. Be sure to mark you calendars!
Founding member Annie Wilson says, “We feel incredibly lucky to live amidst the splendor and wide open spaces of the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie. Through our music, we celebrate this land and its people.”
