"The year has changed, so did my age."
When I first moved back to Haiti in 2010, I worked in Cite Soleil as a Human Rights lawyer. Sometimes I would help the medical clinic sign in patients, and as part of that, I'd ask for age. After a while, I realized patients were changing their age with the new year rather than their birthday.
When I asked why, the response was always the same "ane chanje, laj chanje" (the year has changed, so did my age).
At first, I found it odd, but after a while, honestly, it became a whole vibe. I recognized it as the possibility and hope that comes with the new year to bring about so many growth opportunities.
With that, we wish you a Happy Belated New Year! The year has changed, we are one year wiser and have yet another opportunity. And in essence, our age has also changed. May this year bring you immense happiness, growth, success, health, and continued blessings in raising the next generation.
