Happy Halloween everyone! I feel like it's obligatory to say that today, and I probably missed a trick in not making this whole newsletter Halloween-themed in some really creative way, but to be honest, I just didn't think about it because, (whisper) I don't really care about Halloween that much. Also, I don't really care about pumpkins, which I know makes me a terrible, freshly-minted American.
People in the United States LOVE pumpkins. As soon as mid-September/October comes around, everything is pumpkin-themed. In the UK pumpkin mania is becoming more common, but it's definitely an import. To me, October is all about apples. This is just as well because in addition to my crabapple trees, I have two apple trees, both of which were laden with fruit this year. At the moment I am eating apples every day: applesauce, apple crumble, stewed apples, apple pie, coleslaw with apple, fish tacos with apple-based coleslaw, apple cobbler... - it's a bit like Bubba and his shrimp. At some point I'm going to get sick of my apple-based diet (or it will make me sick), but we're not there yet.
It's hard to believe that we're already well into Q4 of this year and now is the time to start planning 2023. I sometimes feel like the working year ends on Thanksgiving. After that, there are a few weeks in December, but everyone is celebrating holidays and generally enjoying seasonal jolliness. Not to put any pressure on you! If that prospect is scaring you, and you're within driving distance of Golden, Colorado, I have a little something for you...
