The Chariho Youth Task Force was founded over 12 years ago by Chariho Middle School students and is now a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization doing work across our community to improve health and wellness. Our mission is to educate, empower, and engage youth and adults in order to create a sense of community, to promote wellness, and to sustain opportunity for Chariho voices to be heard. We envision a society driven toward physical and mental well-being created through collaboration, education, and activism to promote a positive community climate. |

These laser-engraved mental health signs are officially going up throughout Chariho! We started with Parks and Recs Departments and the schools, and our next stop is working with the DEM to get them up at fishing holes and beaches. Let us know if you have any recommendations for where they should go next! Paper signs are also available for use indoors.

Strengthening Families Program |
|
|
Chariho families are coming together to strengthen communication and relationships within the home. The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is an evidence-based family skills training program for families that is recognized both nationally and internationally. Parents and youth attend weekly SFP skills classes together, learning parenting skills and youth life and refusal skills. SFP teaches three types of research-proven skills - bonding, setting boundaries, and monitoring kids' activities. These skills will help give parents the tools they need to be the parent they want to be and provide youth with the skills they need to be the best versions of themselves.

South County Regional Coalition Update |

This experience allows parents a unique interactive opportunity to look into a teen's mock bedroom. The room is full of common household items that could be used to hide or disguise drug, alcohol, tobacco use or other "risky" behaviors. Move your mouse around the room to "find" the items hidden in the room. Please take the time to talk to your teen about the items you see - use this as a way to launch a conversation about substance use among peers.

We hosted two community hikes during the month of October, one in Bradford (Grills Preserve) and one in Charlestown (Ninigret State Park). Each hike we were careful to keep our group under 15, socially distanced, in masks, and with orange safety vests. Unfortunately, we will be putting our community hikes on hold as COVID-19 restrictions increase due to an uptick in cases in RI. Thank you for understanding! |
