Salado Montessori

Friday Update

Our third week has been a wonderful one!  Our students received several Grace and Courtesy lessons, including conflict resolution and preparing the classroom for lunch.  You can start inviting your child to carry their placemat, plate, glass, napkin, and silverware to and from the dinner table, now!

For the first two weeks we focused solely on the practical life shelves, which included pouring, shoe cleaning, window washing, bead stringing, and other activities that help the kiddos care for themselves and their environment.

This week, we unveiled a new shelf!  Art!  Students are beginning to get lessons on cutting, gluing, drawing, clay work, collaging, and coloring.  Soon we will begin to send work home with your little learners.  This doesn't mean homework, though - it's work they've done here that they'll be excited and proud to show you.

Conflict Resolution

At this age, conflict resolution is simple and direct.   We emphasize stating the action that occurred and the feeling that was felt, rather than blame or shame.

Here is a sample script of conflict resolution you could practice with your child:

Scenario: Kiddo 2 does something to or takes something from Kiddo 1.

Kiddo 1:

"Don't ____." (state the action)

"I was using that"  or  "I don't like it when you ______." (state the action)

Kiddo 2:

"OK, I won't _____." (state the action).    "Does that help you?"

Introductions and greetings were a big part of our group time this week.  Here's a quick video of the Good Morning song we sing each day:

Good Morning

SPONSOR RECOGNITION

We are deeply grateful to our sponsors -

without them, we wouldn't be in our beautiful school today!

Our school was once a house, complete with three bedrooms and an adult-sized kitchen.  Thanks to Curtis and Dea Howard of Centerline Welding, the house was transformed into our beautiful learning environment.  They donated hundreds of hours of work from their construction crews and thousands of dollars of materials and supplies.

If you need any metal work, be it a fence , a barn-dominium, an art installation or any other metal work needs, look them up! centerlinewelding.com/what-we-do.html

Thank you.

We've heard from many of you that you're enjoying the newsletter, and we're glad to hear it!  This edition is actually the third installment.  The first went out on January 11, but it sounds like some folks didn't receive it.  Please do let us know if you would like us to resend it to you.

May you each have a fun-filled weekend!
