Did you know? The Golf Hammock Board of Directors is charged with enforcing the By-Laws and Covenants of the Golf Hammock Home Owner’s Association (GHOA). Article VIII of the Declaration of Covenants and Restrictions gives the GHOA the power and duty to establish rules and regulations for the maintenance of lots within the sub-division. These rules, and there enforcement, help maintain property values and the appearance of the sub-division. Frequently the board receives complaints about property upkeep and must address issues with homeowners as part of the violation process. To avoid a violation here are some things Home Owners can do to ensure they remain compliant to Article VIII: 1. Ensure your house and trim paint is not faded, peeling or moldy. 2. Do not allow weeds to grow in your gutters. 3. Maintain your mailbox and driveway. Distressed mailboxes and driveways are a common complaint. 4. Maintain your landscaping. Mow the lawn weekly during the growing season, remove weeds, trim bushes and shrubbery, remove dead trees and limbs. 5. Park on paved surfaces only. 6. Don’t let you lawn die off. Irrigate and sod your lawns to remain compliant with Article XXII section (8). |

Year-Round Water Conservation Measures Always refer to your city or county regulations first. Effective Date and Areas - The District’s year-round water conservation measures will be back in effect beginning August 2.
- The measures shown below currently apply to all of Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Manatee, Pinellas, and Polk counties; and the cities of Temple Terrace, Plant City and North Port.

- Some local governments such as Hillsborough County and the cities of Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Tampa have local ordinances with special twice-per-week schedules.
- Some local governments such as Pasco and Sarasota counties, and the cities of Dunedin, Longboat Key, Sarasota and Venice, have local ordinances that remain on one-day-per-week schedules.
Lawn Watering Days and Times - Lawn watering is limited to no more than twice per week.
- Lawn watering days and times are as follows unless your city or county has a different
schedule or stricter hours in effect: - Even addresses may water on Thursday and/or Sunday before 10 a.m.
or after 4 p.m. - Odd addresses may water on Wednesday and/or Saturday before 10 a.m.
or after 4 p.m. - Locations without a discernable address, such as rights-of-way and common
areas inside a subdivision, may water on Tuesday and/or Friday before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. - Hand watering and micro-irrigation of plants (other than lawns) can be done on any
day and any time. New Lawns and Plants - New lawns and plants have a “30-30” establishment period.
- On the day of installation, watering is allowed on any day at any time.
- During the first 30 days, watering is allowed on any day during the allowable hours.
- During the second 30 days, watering is allowed three days per week: even-numbered
addresses may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday; odd-numbered addresses may water Monday, Wednesday and Saturday; and locations without a discernable address may water on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. Reclaimed Water - Reclaimed water remains subject to voluntary watering hours, unless restricted by the
local government or utility. Fountains, Car Washing and Pressure Washing - There are no specific restrictions on fountains, car washing and pressure washing.
- These and other water uses should be conducted as efficiently as possible, such as
using a shutoff nozzle on each hose to adhere to the general restriction prohibiting wasteful water use. |

New Trash Containers Compliance Grace Period ends. Covenant Article IX. Article IX states that “No garbage, refuse or rubbish shall be kept on any lot. All areas for the deposit, storage or collection of garbage or trash shall be substantially shielded or screened from neighboring property or common areas, including the golf course.” The Golf Hammock Board of Directors decided to delay enforcement of Article IX, for 6 months, to allow members to obtain smaller trash cans or decide themselves how to comply with the community covenants. The grace period has now ended and violation letters will be generated to those members not complying with Article IX.
As a reminder Highlands County has created a form to expedite the process of getting all the new Trash containers out in a timely fashion. Please be aware that it may take 2-4 weeks for response for exchanges and requests for additional carts due to the large volume of requests received. If you exchange your existing cart for a smaller one there may be a charge to change to the larger size in the future. Please note that when requesting additional carts payment will have to be made directly to Waste Connections of Florida. Road Closures and Culvert repairs Excavation Point Inc. will be working within Golf Hammock starting August 28th through September 8th. Possible road closures will impact the vicinity of Eagle Court, 2906 Waterwood Drive, 3101 Divot Rd, 4234, 4515 and 4613 Duffer Loop.

Coupons, Coupons, Coupons Wendy Hardy is collecting manufacturer’s coupons to be sent to our troops overseas. Generally, these coupons are found in booklets in the Sunday paper. Wendy cuts them out, sorts the coupons into categories, then mails them to our troops. It would help if the coupons could be cut out of the page. |

Magazine Exchange If you have any current magazines that you are done with, bring them to the clubhouse and put them on the counter by the window. See a magazine that you don't subscribe to—take it home and read it and return to the counter. There are a variety of magazines such as Bon Appetit, Woman's Day, People etc. already in place. Check it out. |

Call for Volunteers The Common Grounds Committee is seeking volunteers to assist in maintaining the appearance of our Community entranceways by monitoring the effectiveness of our landscape irrigation systems. A team of two volunteers will conduct a monthly test of the system to validate that the system is working properly. Problems identified during the test are reported back to the Committee for follow-up. Monthly tests should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. Interested individuals should contact Director Mark Walczak. No experience necessary. |

EXERCISE OF THE MONTH STATIC STRETCHING With so many different types of stretching techniques for improving flexibility, there tends to be confusion on the difference between these techniques and how each one is executed. To help cut through some of the confusion, the different types of stretching will be simply explained over the next couple of newsletters. The most common stretching technique, static stretching is executed by extending the targeted muscle group to its maximal point and holding it for 30 seconds or more. There are two types of static stretches: - Active: Added force is applied by the individual for greater intensity.
- Passive: Added force is applied by an external force (e.g., partner or assistive

DYNAMIC STRETCHING Unlike static stretching, dynamic stretching requires the use of continuous movement patterns that mimic the exercise or sport to be performed. Generally speaking, the purpose of dynamic stretching is to improve flexibility for a given sport or activity. For your enjoyment… Do you feel like something warm and filling? Try this recipe and let us know what you think. Beef Stew Ingredients - 2 pounds cubed beef stew meat
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cubes beef bouillon, crumbled
- 4 cups water1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces
- 4 stalks celery, cut into 1 inch pieces
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons cold water
- Add all ingredients to list
Directions - In a large pot or dutch oven, cook beef in oil over medium heat until brown. Dissolve bouillon in water and pour into pot. Stir in rosemary, parsley and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer 1 hour.
- Stir potatoes, carrots, celery, and onion into the pot. Dissolve cornstarch in 2 teaspoons cold water and stir into stew. Cover and simmer 1 hour more.
