We will reopen Saturday, July 8. See you then!

Meet Our 2017 Summer Interns!

Damya (right) will begin her studies in education and human services at Monroe Community College this coming fall. After MCC she hopes to move onto Clark Atlanta University. When she's done with her education, Da'mya would like to work with youth, either as a teacher or counselor. She tells us that she'd like to work at SewGreen@ROC "because I know I'll get opportunities to work with kids which will give me some instructing skills. I love to interact with people and help as much as possible." The oldest of six children, when Da'mya isn't studying or working - and not babysitting! - she enjoys hanging out with her friends.

Summer (left) is a rising 11th grader. She plans to study fashion design, or some other fashion-related field, and she hopes to attend either the Fashion Institute of Technology or Parsons School of Design after high school graduation. Summer first came to us when she was looking for help executing a design project. She would like to spend the rest of her life designing fashion and is already working to build her own brand. She and her work were recently featured in a fashion show. About being at our shop,  Summer says, "SewGreen@ROC gives me an opportunity to be around the things and the types of people I will work around as a designer. When I'm not studying or working, I'm usually sewing."

Madison (right) is a Monroe Community College student in her first year. She's studying theater arts, with an emphasis on costuming and stage make-up. She first came to our shop looking for help making a pair of pirate breeches, and she's been a regular visitor, sewing during our open sewing opportunities, and taking lessons from Georgia and Josefina ever since. When she's not studying or working at the shop, she loves to exercise (running, cycling, and weightlifting). She also enjoys cosplay, videogames, and SFX (special effects) makeup. Madison tells us, "I love to work at SewGreen@ROC because I get hands-on practice, and gain new job history and experience."

Damya comes to SewGreen@ROC through the City of Rochester's Summer of Opportunity Program. Summer's and Madison's internships are made possible by a Mission Partnership Grant from the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester. We are glad to be working with all three of these young women, and we are grateful for the energy they bring to the shop. We hope you have a chance to meet each of them very soon!

Recently at the Shop...

Some of our latest Kids' Sewing Club successes: Elena (left) with her new drawstring bag, and Keris (right) with the bag she made one week, and the drawstring bag she made the next. Excellent sewing, girls! We love helping each one of you bring your latest creative ideas to life, Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
