HUB NEWS What is happening at SADiLaR |
New year, new month, new beginnings. Welcome to the month of February! May you all experience a little/or a lot of love, joy and growth during this short and sweet month of the year. January started off with a bang and we were involved with various workshops/hosted a conference and planned for the strategic highway of SADiLaR. And although are not all based in Potchefstroom anymore, most of us had an experience of the hurricane Eloise – some more intense than others! It was a rainy/stormy couple of days. The sun is making his appearance every now and then and I must say that its presence is highly appreciated by many of us. February also seems like a fresh start for SADiLaR as a hub. The strategic plan of the hub for 2021 – 2023 was held over two days and the presentations as well as inputs from all of the colleagues will ensure that SADiLaR as a hub will move forward in one direction and with clear aims. May 2021be full of new innovative ideas for collaboration, commercialisation and communication. Have a blessed month... Kindest regards Liané |

CODATA-RDA SCHOOL OF RESEARCH AND DATA SCIENCE |
The CODATA-RDA School of Research and Data Science Online & Self-paced: 03 May – 09 July 2021 Contemporary research – particularly when addressing the most significant, inter-disciplinary research challenges – cannot effectively be done without a range of skills relating to data. The CODATA-RDA Schools of Research Data Science initiative has developed a short course curriculum, presented in summer school style, that addresses these training requirements. [To read more: https://www.datascienceschools.org ] The material covered by the programme is fundamental to all areas of research, and thus open to researchers and professionals from all disciplines that deal with significant amounts of research data. The goal is to provide a practical introduction to these topics with some theory and extensive hands-on training. | | |

SAPRIN and SADiLaR, both South African National Research Infrastructures, are aiming to foster collaboration. To identify potential areas of collaboration, a mini-symposium will be organised to provide more information on the work done at both research infrastructures. This call requests people interested in illustrating the work performed at their research infrastructure to submit a short topic focus for presentation at a half-day seminar. Selected topics (to ensure a balanced programme) will be the starting point of the seminar, followed by discussions around these themes to identify practical further steps in collaboration. People interested in presenting their research, on such a level to encourage collaboration, are requested to submit a topic focus described in two sentences (i.e., high level). This topic focus can be emailed to menno.vanzaanen@nwu.ac.za and mark.collinson@mrc.ac.za
Presentations will take place online and are expected to take ten minutes each, with five minutes for questions.
The symposium will be held on 15 April 2021 in the morning.
Preliminary program 1. Introductory presentations by SADiLaR and SAPRIN Directors. 2. Two to three SAPRIN presentations. 3. Two to three SADiLaR presentations. 4. Round table discussions on priority areas for collaboration and next steps.
