On Day 6 we're featuring one of our hottest and most exciting projects, The Block Party! And our 2 COVID initiatives: Grocery Care Packages & Masks!

Pre-COVID, once a month we'd head to the red-light districts of Mexico City to throw a Block Party for women in prostitution. The goal is to disrupt the commercial sex industry for a few hours by creating a new atmosphere of hope and love, with a literal party on the sidewalk. We build relationships with the women on the streets, showing them they're seen and valued, and offering them our support in whatever they need, including a way out of prostitution. These parties are for everyone, including pimps and clients; sometimes a good party is all it takes to  show them the love they're ultimately yearning for. In this video, check out one of Ashley's favorite Block Party memories....

COVID Initiatives

With the onset of Coronavirus and quarantine, life changed for everyone, including our beneficiaries. Hourly hotels shut down in La Merced, and many of the women in this area were out of work. Our projects had to adapt and change as well. Ashley spearheaded a new initiative to make masks, transforming the Block Party into an actual employment opportunity. The same women who were once out on the streets were suddenly seamstresses, fulfilling orders for handmade cloth masks. We still have over 1,000 masks to sell or donate to communities in need. $2 each!

The Block Pantry where we give grocery care packages ("despensas") to our beneficiaries and their families has been going on weekly for over 4 months. They need our support more now than ever. So far we've delivered almost 1,000 care packages, each weighing 60lbs. The cost of 1 care package is only $25 USD.

"It's about the one. Party planning, long days, going to 'dangerous places', confronting things that scare me- all worth it if it means that one girl feels seen, heard, and important."

Aside from her work with 27Miillion, Ashley is the project leader for the Block Party. She has lived in Mexico City for 8 years, and began coordinating Block Parties as a volunteer with YWAM. Her pure, sacrificial love for the women of La Merced, and for the most vulnerable among us, makes her such a formidable warrior for justice.
