Happy Friday!

Here is a quick snapshot of the Top Shelf items I've been obsessing over recently!

A favorite or new food or recipe crush, a book/quote/podcast, and last but not least, a song I cannot get out of my head. I am so excited to share them with you in the hope of bringing

something new and inspiring into your day!

The Breakfast Casserole.

I know there are many nutritional reasons why we should start our day with a good breakfast. Blah, blah-blah. Blah... blah-blah-blah. I rarely have anything more solid than a protein shake early in the morning, but I LOVE breakfast food. It is an emotional support system that pairs well with champagne. Need more convincing?

Attitude Adjustment? "Breakfast is a morning's worth of mood insurance." ~ Amy Krouse Rosenthal

Secret to Life? "All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast." ~ John Gunther

Sad? “There has never been a sadness that can't be cured by breakfast food.” ~Ron Swanson

Self-Love?: "Breakfast for dinner is good for your actual soul." ~Beth Peterson

Currently, I love just about any version of this breakfast casserole. Super easy, one pan, make-ahead, and serve with fruit and something bubbly.

PSA: The imperfection IS perfection.

I have just recently discovered Rupi Kaur. I was looking for a toast to close out the October Blissful Break and came across this little gem. I have been obsessed with her journey from being broken by trauma to empowered by her survival and all that lay between. All collected between the covers of this unassuming book of poetry. Here is a glimpse:

"but this finding ourselves bullshit

is never going to end

i’m tired of putting off living until

i have more information on who i am"

If you have ever felt less than, victimized, unworthy, too flawed to love, or too broken to be powerful... this is your girl. Do yourself a favor today and at least read the linked poem in it's entirety.

More about Rupi Kaur and "Home Body"

"The Greatest Showman" is one of my all-time favorite movies. (I'd like to pause and apologize to those who were guests in my home during 2020 for making you watch or listen to it EVERY time the visit went beyond 20 minutes or so. It's a sorry-not-sorry king of thing...but I felt the effort would count for something.)

This song, from score to choreography, is arguably one of the best "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" anthems ever to grace our airwaves. Why? IMHO, the pronoun change. Nobody puts ME in a corner!

Here are the obvious affirmations peppered throughout the lyrics:

I belong. I am glorious. I march on. I am not afraid. I make no apologies. I am not ashamed. I am brave. I reach for the sun. I am a warrior. I am worthy.

There are also countless implied self-affirming battle cries depending on the listener's circumstances.

My favorite and the one that resonates the most with me... at least this week:

"I am brave, I am bruised. I am who I'm meant to be. This is me"

Flaws, strengths, wins, losses, super hero, wounded... all of it... and we are gloriously worthy!

Whether you have never heard it or, like me, it's on a playlist loop, I encourage you to turn up the volume, focus on the lyrics, and belt them out anytime that voice in your head starts spinning lies.

That’s it for this round! Feel free to forward to a friend!  I’ll be back with more. Until then, know that you are a badass…exactly the way you are.  Celebrate YOU a little today!

It’s Time. ~Beth
