York County Reads connects readers throughout York County as they read the same books at the same time! This exciting program promotes literacy and community engagement, inviting all ages to read our featured books about this year's theme, "Friendship, Unity, and Coming Together." Get inspired, encourage others around you to read together, and sign up! Just use our Beanstack website or the Beanstack Tracker App to create or sign into your account, record your participation, and earn digital badges for completing activities. Complete the challenge to earn a prize — your choice of a special YC Reads wristband keychain or rainbow pencil! The History of Black Schools in York County, 1898–1970: Learn about the early Rosenwald Schools in our area, the effort for separate-but-equal education before integration, and how these schools later closed or merged into new schools during desegregation. For adults. Registration is required. Thursday, Feb. 9, 5–6:30 p.m., Main Library, Rock Hill Black History Month Movies: Bring your lunch, if you’d like, and enjoy these Black History movies. Light refreshments provided. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required. We're also celebrating National Library Lover's Month this February with a Family Scavenger Hunt at the Main Library in Rock Hill! Children, accompanied by adults, can pick up a clue sheet in the Children's Department and explore the library to locate things that are red. After completing the sheet, pick up a prize from the Children's Desk! Prizes are available while supplies last. |

Workforce Opportunity Services, a leading non-profit organization that connects individuals in underserved populations with transformative career opportunities, is hosting a free, three-part series — "The Wonderful World of Watercolor." Each session is designed for those of all ages and aims to stimulate their creativity and expand their horizon in the arts. |

Introduction to Watercolor focuses on terminology, basic materials, and color theory, followed by a demonstration on creating an exciting wash. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 5–6 p.m.
Negative Painting will be a demonstration on painting the first layer. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 5–6 p.m. Finishing the Painting demonstrates how to mix colors, as well as how to make the foreground subjects pop. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 5–6 p.m.

Please note that Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC cannot be printed and must be ordered or purchased either directly from the IRS or an office supply store. Rotary Club Donates $2,000 for Literacy Congratulations, Lake Wylie Public Library! On Wednesday, Jan. 18, the branch library was presented with a $2,000 "Adopt-A-Book" donation from the Lake Wylie Rotary Club. This donation will help in purchasing new children's books for their collection. |

Friends of the Library Recognizes Volunteers Congratulations to longtime Friends of the York County Library member Claudia Ray (pictured, left). Claudia was named the recipient of the first "Faithful Friend Award" at the Friends of YCL annual meeting on Jan. 29. |

This new award recognizes extraordinary dedication to the Friends on behalf of the York County Library. Also recognized was Terry Plumb, who received the Joann W. McMaster Volunteer of the Year Award. Posing with the awardees, both past Friends presidents themselves, is current President Susan Lyle. |

Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave is the longest cave system in the country, possibly the world. No one knows exactly how big it is, as only 400 miles have been explored, but it’s big enough to have its own town and zip code! If you can’t visit the cave, let it come to you with a live presentation from Mammoth Cave National Park! |

Kentucky native and Park Ranger Jennifer Shackelford will share pictures, facts, trivia, and plenty of stories. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
