REFUGEES MAKE PROGRESS UNDER DRDIP PROJECT IN LAMWO

Uganda has been lauded for progress made in giving a second lease of life to displaced persons in the country.

The Head of Mission for Intergovernmental Authority on Development in Uganda Lucy Daxbacher sees a situation where a refugee cannot be differentiated from a Ugandan National.

This was during the tour of humanitarian projects under the Development Response to Displacement Impacts project in Lamwo district.

Their first stop was at Lamwo district Headquarters from where they received a report on the progress of DRDIP in the area.

It then came the time to see for themselves the actual works on the ground.

Palabec Secondary School was their next stop. The delegation from Intergovernmental authority was treated to a colourful reception from the students here. The reason for this excitement was to be later seen in the guided tour of the projects set out for the school.

Both local and National Leaders were excited in equal measure.

In the meantime, Eng Onek insists on holding a regional conference to prevent continuous generation of refugees by neighbouring countries.

In its fifth year now, DRDIP has injected resources in health services, formal education and skills development to make better life of refugees and their hosts.
