Hey Happeners, well, last time we rather hoped that things would soon be heading back towards "normal" but that hope has been dashed! There was some great music last weekend, notably at the Stigmata gig but then the new fuel announcement was made. On the positive side, a lot of the events this week have still been going ahead - the music, the comedy and more. We do still recommend calling to check before setting off, but so far we've heard of little being cancelled, so hopefully that will continue. So here's what's happening the rest of this week, but do check here from time to time as new events are being announced every day, especially just after we send our newsletter, but we do update the site regularly. Enjoy the rest of the week, keep safe, stay well! |

Happy Hours & Ladies' Night R&B Night Club is best known for its music and DJs but they also have happy hours. If you get there early, you can enjoy happy hours from 8.00pm to 11.00pm, Tuesday to Sunday. This Thursday, Botanik are again offering free drinks. This week it's the Vineyard Edition, with free wine or Arrack Sours cocktails for the first fifteen minutes of every hour, from 5.00pm to midnight. Most Ladies' Nights in town seem to be on a Wednesday, right? With a couple of exceptions. However on Thursdays you can still enjoy a ladies night, and on a beach, as Sugar Beach invites you to "Beach Babes" to enjoy selected drinks on the house from 6pm to 8pm. Perfect for sundowners, yes?

Live Music and DJs Despite the fuel challenges, there's plenty of gigs happening this weekend and so far all are going ahead. For all the gigs, do check our daily gig diary for the full schedule; it's updated several times a day so you'll see the latest details. But the big gigs and novel gigs this weekend are: On Friday, "Dance to the Drumbeat" with Infinity at Colombar, with Umara and Rani. Tickets cost from Rs4,000. On Saturday "Wayo by the Lake" also takes place at Colombar, this time with Kanchana Anuradhi, Jaya Sri and Sanuka. Tickets cost Rs3,500. Unusually there's a big gig Sunday too, "Flickzter Night", with Dinesh Gamage, Nadeemal Perera, Dilmin Perera and Kanchana Anuradhi backed by Pointfive. This gig is at Green Serenity Holiday Resort, tickets cost from Rs3,000, or Rs5,000 for VIP. There's a couple of big EDM nights too. On Saturday at Sugar Beach there's the "Lumen Festival", a night of music from eight DJs and performers: Clifford Isaac, The Music Director, Sajay, Dirk Andrew, Binu Sax, Dian, Mark and Sauri, starting at 4.30pm. Back in town and there's "Double Trouble" at Zouk, so called (presumably) because it's got DJs Ace, Capital C, Ludi Spex and Jadon Fonka on both Friday and Saturday, with Ace on Friday too. For other DJ nights, see our diary on our home page.

Other Events How about some theatre this weekend with "A Nightmare in Wonderland", described as a twisted retelling of the CS Lewis classic. This is on at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on Friday and Saturday, at 7.30pm and comes with the caution that it is for mature audiences only (I think that means 'not for kids'). Looking ahead to next week and on Tuesday there's Salsa Dancing at Kava Bar, with lessons from 6.30pm to 8.30pm (with a free cocktail) then dancing from 8.30pm to midnight. The French Spring Festival continues and on 5th July there is an online discussion of controversial histories in the Indian Ocean with historian and activist Francoise Verges and Professor of World History, Sujit Sivasundaram. This is at 5.00pm.
