ISSUE 2, March 2021

Usually at the end of March, you can find traditional Easter markets all around Vienna with artfully decorated eggs, culinary treats, live music, as well as all sorts of fun entertainment for children. Sadly, this year we will be in full lockdown in Vienna over Easter. Luckily, we crafters can enjoy Easter in our junk journals in the meantime :).

Usually the Easter market at Castle Schönbrunn is considered to be one of the most romantic Easter markets. In front of the backdrop of the palace, 70 exhibitors offer all sorts of culinary pleasures as well as decorative Easter decorations and handicrafts from Austria.

To recognize Easter in my Travelers Notebook, I took a collage I had made in a video a while ago and used it to make a bigger collage. This took me less than 10 minutes and gave me the feeling I had done something creative that day :).

How to Make Collage Rolls Using Up Scraps

NEW IN MY SHOP

These are the latest addition to my shop. I wanted to create floral vintage-looking journaling cards. The backgrounds of these are scans of coffee/watercolor dyed book pages and I love that they have a label with the name of the flower.

I'm quite pleased with these Vintage Spring Backgrounds because I still consider myself a beginner with creating digitals and I enjoy the many layers of beautiful old script, ornaments and Victorian fashion, paired with florals. This background kit consists of 10 pages, of which 2 are very neutral to suite any project.

I'm currently really enjoying working in my new junk journal which I bought from the very talented Nadja (Instagram @artallerlei). I have a video with the unboxing and a flip through of this beauty.

I Bought a Junk Journal!

I wanted to try something new  and so I started an "ASMR" series working in this journal with short bonus videos posted every Sunday. Coined in 2010, ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) is a relaxing, often sedative sensation triggered by placid sights and sounds such as whispers, accents, and crackles.

With this series I wanted you to just sit back and relax and enjoy the sounds of paper and crafting.  You will have the best sound experience if you listen with headphones on. Give it a try! :)

WHAT'S ON MY DESK

After creating a few junk journals, I was in dire need of some more snippet rolls, so I spent a couple of hours putting paper scraps on masking tape (I made one with a wide tape and one with a narrow tape). It's also fun to add lace on top!

This is a perfect project for using up those smaller scraps and to do something creative without a lot of thinking :). I love having these on hand to embellish my journals quickly. Once I had all the scraps in place, I just ran the strips through my sewing machine with a large zig-zag stitch.

SNEAK PEEK

This photo is an exclusive sneak peak of an upcoming junk journal process video. I made this butterfly cover out of a recycled grocery paper bag. I love the way it feels almost like leather after I painted it with metallic paints and the addition of the handles makes it look like  a handbag :). I hope you will enjoy this video as much as I did creating this journal!

A VIDEO YOU MISSED?

I currently have a mini series on making a fairy junk journal. In the first episode we created the cover from an old book and added some die cuts and paint. In the 2nd episode we started putting together and embellishing the signatures and finally, in the 3rd episode we will continue embellishing and  adding the signatures with a

5-hole pamphlet stitch with a hollow, hidden spine. Join me and make your own fairy journal! :)
