Social Marketing for Sustainability With Internationally Renowned Speaker Dr. Doug Mckenzie-Mohr |
For over three decades, internationally renowned author/speaker, Dr. McKenzie-Mohr, has been applying behavioural science to the design and delivery of sustainability programs. He understands the psychology that encourages and discourages sustainable action. Most sustainability programs rely on disseminating information. Research demonstrates, however, that providing information has little or no effect on what people do. But if not ads, brochures or booklets, then what? Community–based social marketing has emerged as an effective alternative for delivering programs to foster sustainable behaviours. Dr. McKenzie-Mohr is the founder of community-based social marketing and the author/co-author of three books on the topic, the recipient of the American Psychological Association’s inaugural award for innovation in environmental psychology and the World Social Marketing conference’s inaugural award for contributions to the field of social marketing. He is currently an adjunct professor in Psychology at the University of Victoria. Join us for this engaging and informative presentation. Admission by donation. Presented by Creatively United for the Planet and Conversations for a One Planet Region with the Community Trees Matter Network. Thursday, October 17, 5 – 7 pm Greater Victoria Public Library Multi-purpose room, 735 Broughton St. |

With fall being the ideal time to plant trees, Ryan Senechal, Municipal Arborist/Urban Forester/Industry Subject Matter Expert, will share advice on how to choose the right trees to plant, where to plant and how to ensure long term success for trees to survive and thrive. Originally educated in Urban Arboriculture at Humber College in Toronto, Ryan has more recently been active as an instructor of industrial Arboriculture subjects for professionals and through community education in addition to his duties in Municipal Urban Forestry. His work in urban tree care, instruction, public speaking and urban forestry has taken him across Canada, England, and throughout the Pacific northwest. Bring your questions and learn how by planting trees you can contribute to global climate action. Presented by the Community Trees Matter Network in partnership with Creatively United. Wednesday, October 23, 7:15 – 8:30 pm Church of Truth, 111 Superior Street For those of you who do not have a space to plant a tree, please note that Plantfortheplanet.ca has sourced an area of land on which to plant your seedlings. |
