On the 22nd of February we hosted the first Intergenerational Practice conference of its kind at The Royal Albert Hall. The conference brought together leaders from across the ecosystem to discuss how we could work together to address current issues through intergenerational practice. Thank you to our sponsor riverstone for your support.

We were joined on the day by incredible keynote speakers from across the sectors, an expert and participant panel providing valuable insight and experience to help shape our questions and responses. We were able to delve into cross sectorial challenges and consider intergenerational approaches.

This was a pivotal moment, and we are excited to share the next steps we aim to take in addressing barriers, building relationships and driving forward the conversation.

Intergenerational Principles

On the day, we encouraged attendees to think about the key principles and ingrediants of intergenerational practice. We are now in the process of analysing the responses which will help us shape the next steps.

We are keen to develop our thinking and the conversation, meeting with representatives and organisations that have a key role to play in the progression of intergenerational work. If you could like to join the conversation, we would love to hear what you’ve got to say! To express interest, please email emily@imm-music.com and let’s make it intergenerational.

Make It Intergenerational

For those that have been involved in our work, supported us across our digital platforms and beyond, you know that IMM is passionate about bridging the gap between generations.

With this in mind, we are proud to announce that we have now launched our top tips toolkit, aimed at providing initial thinking and ideas around how you can make your work intergenerational.  You can now access this toolkit here.

We hope that with these guidelines, we can encourage more people to expand their offering to more age groups and drive those intergenerational connections across the entire community ecosystem.

Our Intergenerational Choir

Our personal highlight from the day was the amazing performance from our Intergenerational Choir that performed an original song on the day.

The members of the choir ranged between ages of 10 - 95 and featured previous members of IMM projects as well as people from within our community and the amazing London Youth Choir. The performance was a perfect example of a group of people coming together, sharing experiences and connecting through the power of music.

If you would like to view their performance please take a look at the video below.

We cannot express how pleased we are about the amazing feedback that we’ve received post this conference, and how many incredible partnerships are now emerging from it. We hope that you join us on this journey and help us advocate for intergenerational work within your organisation / work setting and beyond.

This is just the start of a larger ambition and joint movement.  We look forward to announcing more around this in the coming weeks along with a special announcement of a special project our team has been working on in the background. Little clue, it involves Angela Rippon and Richard Madeley... Stay tuned!
