Winter 2021 Newsletter

Quarterly Newsletter

January 2021

Alas, again in 2021. . . here we are and we are still dealing with this virus!

In early November, when I started thinking about this next newsletter --- the sign below was sort of my inspiration.  It  hangs in my office in the middle of memories (ie. pix) from previous trips.

If you can't make out the words below:

Wanderlust (noun) - A very strong or irresistible desire to travel!

WHO HAS WANDERLUST BESIDES ME?

Maybe it's time to start planning that next trip; I know that always makes me feel a bit more positive!  Maybe, just maybe, we'll all start to travel this wonderful world.

If you have international travel on your mind do one thing RIGHT NOW!

Check the expiration date of your passport!  International destinations require passports to be valid a minimum of 6 months after your travel dates. Even if you’re not considering international travel any time soon, you may want to take a look at the expiration date. It should come as no surprise that the timeline for passport renewal has become a bit more complicated during the coronavirus pandemic.

This link for "passport operations in response to COVID" updates frequently as does their facebook page.  Currently both sites state time for renewal is between 10 and 12 weeks. . .but as we all know - depending what happens with COVID - that can change!  So get that renewal started!

PCR TEST - VACCINE to TRAVEL?

This has been in the news lately - will the COVID vaccine be required to travel?  There's no answer to this yet.  To begin with, having mandatory vaccinations for travel isn’t a new concept—my yellow immunization card (a bit torn and tattered) was required on my 2019 trip to Africa to  show proof of yellow fever vaccination. Currently we know that many destinations require a negative COVID-19 test result in order to enter their country.

So this very well may be something we will see in the future - a requirement for proof of vaccination against COVID. The World Health Organization (WHO) created the International Certificate of Inoculation and Vaccination (aka the ICV, carte jaune, or yellow card) and is currently working on technology that would replace it with some type of digital health credential.

For now, know that a negative PCR test result is a common requirement for many of the countries who are allowing US citizens travel.

MORE CHANGE!  This newsletter has been delayed going out and now I'm glad; because the latest news is that, not only do you need a negative COVID test prior to a trip -- the new CDC requirement for US inbound travelers, including citizens, is that you will need to arrive back in the USA with a negative COVID test in hand that was taken within 72 hours of travel.  This begins on January 26, 2021.

Know that travel industry partners are already working on this!  I have already had emails from several resort brands with information on how they will be providing this test to all their departing guests.

Tourism is needed, desperately, all over the world, so be assured that both public and private entities are working on a solution to this new requirement for US travelers.

I did travel, internationally, in October, 2020.  The trip to St. Lucia  had been planned prior to the pandemic. Our plans changed multiple times; first due to the resort closure, found another option; then flight schedule changed and 2nd resort no longer available those dates; and finally I was able to match a resort with the new the flight schedule.  And it was worth all the stress of the changes. It was a wonderful trip!  I have several blog posts about the resort and the trip.  Travel was different - wear your mask at all times (except when drinking or eating), try to social distance, and be aware that travel has changed.

So I'm writing  again in this issue -- To travel now requires more planning, more due diligence about what must be done, before, during, and after travel.  As your travel advisor, please know that I am here to help however I can.

The Emerald Isle - Ireland

This trip is still in a go and has been moved to September 2021.  It will be a small group (8 to 10 persons) and will allow travelers the flexibility to pick and choose portions of the trip to suit their tastes. There will be options in each city where we'll stay and mode of transportation will be a combination of rail and private transfers.

If you're still interested in September date - please let me know and as soon as an itinerary is available I will send to your for your consideration.

Consider All-Inclusives

Yes, I included this in the last newsletter and it still applies.  If you want to just get away and relax at a resort -- most resort brands are doing great with COVID protocols during this pandemic This may be the perfect time to consider an all-inclusive for your next trip.

There are many reasons to look to all-inclusives, especially now.

1. Consistent Quality Control Standards Minimizes Risk - All-inclusive resorts have strict guidelines and protocols in place that extend throughout their entire properties.

2. No Crowds, Social Distancing Enforced - All-inclusives resorts are limiting their occupancy to ensure social distancing is available.

3. No Need to Venture Outside the Resort - Many people who book all-inclusives don't care about venturing beyond the resort - during this time staying within the resort protects you and others.

4. Value Is Even Better Than Before - Yes, there are incentives to get you to these resorts!

5. Provide New Required Negative COVID Test Prior to Returning to the US - Many resorts are adding this to their line-up of protocols.

There are so many different tiers of all-inclusives and they allow you to worry less, follow the protocols and treat yourself.

2022 Bermuda Getaway Cruise from Norfolk, VA

Although my planned February cruise to the Panama Canal was cancelled. . .I am still thinking positive about travel and cruise travel.  However, I know that some people want to wait a bit longer before they cruise.

Here is the perfect cruise for your consideration . . .in 2022!

A 6-Day cruise on the Carnival Magic, departing from Norfolk, Virginia. And what a great itinerary with 2 1/2 days ( 2 overnights) in Bermuda and two days at sea.

Bermuda is set apart by its location and way of life; it's where cultures, genuine hospitality, adventurous spirits and a certain mystique swirl together.  It retains it's very British culture as well as it's island flavor. For over four centuries Bermuda island has welcomed adventure seekers, explorers, and romantics alike.
