Exactly one year ago, in the middle of a global pandemic, we launched Sending Sunshine. After months of planning and preparation we were excited to finally show all of our hard work. We were hoping to receive a few hundred cards, maybe even a thousand if we were lucky. Little did we know that the generosity of Canadians and people around the world would result in us receiving over 53,600 cards in the past year. We have been completely blown away by the support that we have received and love the community that we have created. Due to your support, tens of thousands of seniors across the country have had their days brightened with a thoughtful card.

A Year in Statistics

In one year we have:

• Received 53,697 cards, 36,006 of which have been distributed to seniors in Canada

• Partnered with 173 care facilities and senior organizations across the country

• Received cards from individuals in 10 provinces and 2 territories

• Received cards from people in an additional 8 countries

• Had over 5,000 students sign up to gain volunteer hours from writing cards

• Welcomed 12 high school students to our team to help with social media, graphic design, and card sorting

• Provided a co-op opportunity to two students

• Paired 242 individuals with a pen pal

• Launched a Redbubble store to sell stickers and cards

• Received in kind donations from 24 businesses

• Received sponsorship by 4 companies

• Received 1 grant 

• Gained 15,000 followers on TikTok and over 2,200 on Instagram

We want to thank everyone who has supported us during this past year; we could not have done it without you! We look forward to our second year and hope to spread even more sunshine across the country and beyond.
