Year-End Giving Thank you to our students whose drawings made one lovely Christmas card this year. This cover is a digital artwork by Samantha, a 6th grader, giving her interpretation of our theme, "The Gift of Love." The theme is a celebration of the many ways people are giving to support other people impacted by the pandemic. Click here to view the card and the story of our temporary closure and some unexpected gifts that have kept us going online. You can also give if you can to help us continue our work. Thank you. |

We are beyond grateful and blessed for our amazing staff, parents, donors, partners, and volunteers who helped make this day happen!! A huge thank you to staff at Pepperdine Seaver College, Leslie Fishburn at HKS Architects, and a $500 donation from USC Civic Engagement for providing $2,600 to buy our Wooten Dollar Store gifts!

Spotlight: World Languages and Culture With Cooking |
World Languages and Culture With Cooking is one of our most popular classes. Taught by our associate director Christelle Telesford, a native of St. Vincent in the Caribbean, the weekly class explores cultures from around the world, including the language, architecture, music, dance, and food. The latter is hands-on, with everyone cooking in their own kitchen. See the video above for a snapshot of the countries we traveled to in the fall. See full videos of this and other classes on our YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/wootencenter. All registered students and their parents are welcome to attend this and other activities, including our monthly College and Career Day. |

College and Career Day: Interior Design with Leslie Fishburn |
Leslie Fishburn (far right photo with her son Aidan in our back alley and above seated far right in our library) first learned of the Wooten Center after meeting our executive director at Loyola Marymount, where teams of students were presenting several options for redesigning our parent room and front office. Leslie is an interior designer and principal at HKS Architects, designer of the Rams So-Fi Stadium. She was impressed with the center's work and a couple of weeks later went for a visit that has since led to donations of carpet from Mannington Commercial and paint from Sherwin Williams (enough for two buildings!). |
She also recruited teams of HKS and Loyola volunteers to serve several days helping complete the work, largely funded by a $150,000 grant from Ahmanson Foundation and pro bono services from SAA interior + architecture. Leslie shared her expertise again recently at the center, this time online at our monthly College and Career Day. As a guest mentor, Leslie shared her college and career experiences and led students in a hands-on activity bringing "joy" to some rooms. Best part is having a very sweet friend our kids can be encouraged and inspired by! See the video below. |
