Embracing the Cozy Outdoors this February!

Dear Idaho Breastfeeding Coalition Members,
As we find ourselves nestled into the heart of February, a month that often conjures images of frosty landscapes and cozy indoor gatherings, we want to encourage you to bundle up and embrace the great outdoors! While the temperatures might be chilly, there's something truly magical about the crisp winter air and the beauty that surrounds us.

Here in Idaho, we are fortunate to be surrounded by stunning landscapes, from snow-covered mountains to serene forests. It's easy to be captivated by the allure of a winter wonderland, and we believe that bundling up and getting outside can do wonders for both our physical and mental well-being.

For our breastfeeding community, the benefits of outdoor adventures extend beyond the scenic views. Did you know that exposure to natural light, even in the winter, can positively impact mood and energy levels? So, why not don your warmest layers, grab your favorite thermos of hot tea, and head out for a winter stroll? Whether it's a leisurely walk in a local park or a more adventurous hike, taking in the beauty of nature can be a rejuvenating experience for both you and your little ones.

For those with infants, bundling up can be a bonding experience. There's something special about wrapping your baby in cozy layers and venturing outside together. The fresh air can be invigorating for both mother and child, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

As we celebrate the month of love, let's extend that love to ourselves and our families by embracing the outdoors. Whether it's building snowmen, exploring winter trails, or simply enjoying a moment of tranquility in your backyard, the possibilities are endless.

And remember, February is not just about Valentine's Day – it's about celebrating the love we have for ourselves, our families, and our beautiful state of Idaho. So, let's bundle up, step outside, and create heartwarming memories in the winter wonder that surrounds us.

Wishing you a cozy and adventurous February!

Warm regards,

Lynnelle King, Chair of the IBC

Presentation from Heather Norris!

Heather Norris is the owner of Mind Centered Birth Services. She has been a doula since 2013 and is certified through DONA International. She had also taken training to teach childbirth education from Lamaze and GentleBirth. In this time she has gained experience in over 240 births; supporting women in hospitals, birth centers and home births.
She believes wholeheartedly in women making informed decisions about their birth no matter the path they are on.
Heather is married with two children and loves to camp and travel with her family.
She is currently serving on the board of Treasure Valley Doulas as Membership Director and loves helping to grow and mentor new doulas in the community.
Previously she was the President from Jan 2021-Dec 2023 and Jan 2015-Dece 2018  and also Membership Director in 2019.

Through her journey of having two children she recognized the need for women to have more support during labor and to feel confident with their body during birth.
She believes that our bodies know how to birth if given the right support. Historically, birth was an intuitive act. A "village" of women came to a birth...grandmothers, mothers, sisters, aunts, and friends would surround a mother with comfort and knowledge. Western medicine has made birth safer in many ways for mothers and babies. But she believes that we could benefit from the intuitive approach of times past. She is the doula that helps you bridge the benefits of modern medicine and the intuitive power of your own body.
