PASTORAL PAGE WHEN LEADERS LET US DOWN by Ps Lim Wei-en What a couple of weeks it’s been in the local political scene! It started in early July when two of our ministers were scrutinized over the way they went about renting colonial bungalows at Ridout Road for their personal use. Last week, the Transport Minister was arrested by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau over a graft probe, and placed on a leave of absence. Then, early this week, two MPs resigned from parliament and the ruling party after it was revealed that they had an affair. On that same day, it was reported that two senior members from an opposition party, including one MP, were caught on video having an inappropriate exchange. OUTREACH MONTH - JULY 2023 One of our church’s emphases this year, as part of Vision 2028, is urgent outreach. In line with this focus, we have launched a month-long outreach campaign in the month of July 2023. Here are some exciting opportunities to share God’s heart for the lost and obey His command to be His witnesses in West Coast, Singapore, and to the ends of the earth. In Their Shoes – A Poverty Sensitisation Workshop 23 July 2023 (Sunday), 12.15-1.45pm Journey in the shoes of a single parent from the low-income community and get a glimpse of the multiple challenges and choices faced on a day-to-day basis. Through an interactive simulation, this workshop aims to help Christians gain insights into the vulnerabilities and realities of the poor in Singapore, so that we may learn to love and care for them as God has commanded us to. Breakfast by Gladiolus Place 30 July 2023 (Sunday), 9.30-11am In partnership with the Ladies Ministry, we have been organising monthly connections to reach out to the at-risk teenage girls at Gladiolus Place (GP). Presently, GP is undergoing a major renovation and requires further funding. To raise funds, some GP girls will be selling tasty treats in the fellowship hall on 30 July. Bring some $$ to purchase yummy breakfast bakes, and take the opportunity to drop by the breakfast booth for a rare chance to interact with the GP girls and staff. |

NEW BLOCKS BLESSING @CLEMENTI PEAKS “You are the salt of the earth……..You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden….... In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven". (Matthew 5:13-16) The Bible Church, Singapore is called to be the salt and light to West Coast and Clementi. With the Kairos window now open to the new BTO flats at Clementi Peaks, we would like to be Christ’s ambassadors to welcome and bless our new neighbours through New Blocks Blessing @Clementi Peaks through distribution of blessing gift packs to every household. When is it? 1. Date of gift packs distribution: 5 August 2023 (Saturday) Time: 9:30am Meeting venue: Clementi Bible Centre 2. Briefing & instruction: 29 & 30 July 2023 (Sat-Sun, after all services) What can I do? There are many ways you can participate in the New Blocks Blessing, such as: * Distribute gift packs at Clementi Peaks door to door on 5 August, Saturday. Briefing and instructions will be given. * Pack blessing gift packs on 27 July 2023 (Thursday) at 9.00am in Rooms #04-01/02. * Be part of a regular befriending task force to connect with residents at Clementi Peaks. * Be part of a regular prayer team to pray for the residents at Clementi Peaks. * Open your home for a new Clementi Peaks CG in Clementi. Must I or my CARE Group be in or near Clementi to participate in this outreach? All are welcome to participate in this outreach regardless of where you or your CARE Group are located. However, we wish to make a special appeal to individuals, families and CARE Groups situated in West Coast and Clementi to respond to this call to bless your geographical Jerusalem. GUIDED PRAYER RETREATS 2023 Daily Office, Lectio Divina, Solitude & Silence, Prayer of Examen, Imaginative Prayer, Welcoming Prayer, Listening Prayer, Prayer of Lament, Intercessory Prayer, Conversational Prayer …. These were some of the prayers that were introduced at the three-session Prayer Course in March 2023. In response to feedback that the time allocated during the course for these prayers was too short, we are pleased to organize three similar half-day prayer retreats to practise these and other forms of prayer. To register for one of these retreats, please click here. Dates: 9 August (Wednesday); 21 October (Saturday); 2 December (Saturday). If you are going through a season of challenges and need emotional support, the Lay Counselling Ministry in the Bible Church would love to pray and journey with you through your struggles and difficulties. Trained counsellors are available to help with pastoral care and short-term counselling for children, youth and adults, including TBC members, regular attendees and those seeking Christian counsel.
