Alumni and Friends,

Did you have a teacher, mentor, or boss inspire you to achieve your career goals? Did they motivate you to get involved and develop your skill? Thanksgiving is a time of joyful celebration as well as a time of reflection. As the holiday season approaches, we hope you will reflect on your life with appreciation and gratitude for the people and organizations that invested time, resources, and money to help you break barriers, challenge yourself and build a better life and future.

SkillsUSA California is committed to providing resources and experiences throughout the year that lead to meaningful career opportunities, higher education options, and leadership experiences for over 40,000 members each year. We have more students and teachers seeking opportunities for skill and leadership development than ever before, and funding sources are limited.

Please consider donating today to support the work of SkillsUSA California. Donating is easy. You can contribute online HERE. All donations may be tax-deductible and directly support SkillsUSA California members, services, and programs.

Your support will help us provide employability skill training materials, leadership and skill contests, and student scholarships and help us provide access to underserved students, chapters, and communities. You make a difference when you choose to invest in their future. If you want to get involved in other ways, we welcome volunteers, judges, and event sponsors to participate; please contact our dedicated team today at alumni.friends@skillsusaca.org.

Shared Experiences

We asked Alumni and Friends at the Business Advisory Committee to share a favorite
SkillsUSA memory or experience.

Gina Fleming

Silicon Valley CTE

“My favorite story I like to share during our first introductory SkillsUSA meeting is my experience of the first year going with students to the national conference in Louisville, Kentucky. After sharing all the beautiful benefits of SkillsUSA & how great it is to see them all transform into professional leaders in their trade, it was also an excellent experience to share life experiences with the students. Not only was it my first year going to nationals, but it was also a handful of students' first time going on a plane, first time leaving the state, first concert (Selena Gomez), and their first time seeing fireflies. The smiles and laughter on their faces made me want to continue as a SkillsUSA advisor and promote this organization to the students so they can also enjoy the educational, professional & life experiences SkillsUSA has to offer!”

Joshua M. Eiffel-Hoy

LAUSD-DACE-NVOC

“My favorite SkillsUSA CA memory had to be my first time at SLSC in 2019. It was so amazing to me to be able to see all the different competitions happening at the same time in so many other areas throughout the Ontario competition center. It was my first year (2018-2019) with SkillsUSA as a new EMS educator, and my counterpart & mentor told me that I would have lots of fun, precisely what I did. Additionally, that was our first year presenting EMT to SkillsUSA as a demonstration competition. I am now on the EMT net and apparently will be named the Tech Co-chair for EMT, along with Tech chair Charlotte Bush.”

Each month we will highlight a different Alumni/Friend’s story.  We ask that you share your journey with us for inclusion in future newsletters by submitting the Google Form HERE.
