Let's Become Global Citizens

Professor Fang Shu 09/24/2021

Hello everyone, greetings from NYC!

I'm here to take a quick vacation. But the real reason for my visit to NYC is a concert called "Global Citizen Live NYC" that will take place in Central Park tomorrow. Coldplay, one of my favorite bands, will perform. Moreover, Lang Lang, the world-renowned Chinese pianist, will be a special guest. As you can imagine, I'm pretty excited about this!

Global Citizen is a non-profit organization that takes action to "Defeat Poverty", "Demand Equity", and "Defend the Planet". We have taken a total of 28.4 million actions as active global citizens, impacting the lives of 1.09 billion people to date. For my philanthropy class, Global Citizen provides many cases and news articles.

Among the ways that Global Citizen increases social awareness and raises funds is to organize an annual event called "Global Citizen Live". It is a 24-hour global event to unite the world to defend the planet and defeat poverty. Artists, celebrities, and world leaders from 6 continents will come together to create change and impact climate change and poverty.

This year, Global Citizen Live will take place in cities including Lagos, London, Los Angeles, New York City, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul, and Sydney on 09/25/2021. As part of Global Citizen’s 2021 global campaign, this year's Global Citizen Live focuses on five key objectives: ending COVID-19 for all, ending the hunger crisis, resuming learning for all, protecting the planet, and advancing equity for all.

I was rewarded with two free tickets to Global Citizen Live NYC as a result of my efforts. It is pretty likely I will donate to the organization when I have the chance tomorrow. However, as I have stated many times, philanthropy is not solely about money. Now I'm using my channel to promote the organization and spread awareness of social issues to my friends and social network. This is philanthropy! Coldplay, Lang Lang, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, BTS... all these artists have been using their social influence and talents to spread awareness of social issues. They are philanthropists!

Don't underestimate your power to solve social issues, my friends. Join me in using your own philanthropic resources to make the world a better place. Become a philanthropist now. Rather than waiting until you become a millionaire, please start now! If you would like to discuss philanthropy with me, please feel free to contact me.

Alright, it's time for dinner! I am getting ready to meet some FIU Golden Panthers living in New York. Talk soon!

Yours sincerely,

Fang
