June 2020

News Flash! We are currently progressing through the design stage of development and anxiously awaiting the start of construction.

As one of our members stated, we are weaving a tapestry and every time a new member joins, we add more beauty to our tapestry. Everyone brings their own story and it is so amazing to watch the depth and richness of this tapestry develop.

We are very excited to finalize our plans with the city and get our building permits. We can’t wait to break ground AND we still have some spots available!

Now is an especially exciting and rewarding time to be a part of Adams Creek Cohousing! Last month we began to work on refining the design details of the buildings and outdoor spaces of our cohousing development. As individuals we have the opportunity to provide inputs regarding our private homes, and we also collaborate in small committees to define the specifics of the common areas we will share. It’s not necessarily an easy process to balance the wants and needs of a group of up to 25 households. But our commitment to provide for the community at large and our governance processes make it possible to do this reasonably efficiently while hearing from everyone who wants a voice in decisions.

For example, the Common House Kitchen committee is working from this plan to determine the number, type, size and location of large appliances, work spaces, storage, etc. What a great opportunity to help design our future homes and community life! And new Associate members participate in these decisions as well.

What our members say about

“ My journey to Adams Creek Cohousing"

NASHIRA, JIM,

MILES (10), ELLA (7):

It was Nashira and Jim’s dream that started the journey for Adams Creek
Cohousing in 2016, and much of her energy has carried us to where we
are today.
“Even though we are comfortable in a nice house, have invested time and
energy to make friends and have nice neighbors, we still feel as if there could be a better and closer to home “village” experience in which to raise our kids. We are a family of musicians and artists who appreciate good food and fun neighbors.”

KATE HAND’s number one reason for choosing ACC is the beauty, both natural and man-made. The Columbia River Gorge and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking, but the town itself is also charming, and so much of the architecture of the building downtown, as well as the houses surrounding it, is just plain delightful to behold. Also, it’s a small town with many of the advantages of a larger one - culture, great shopping, wonderful restaurants, great schools - without the congestion and crime of a larger city. (Kate and her husband currently live in SF area and will be moving to Hood River in the future.)
