Great Gable is one of the most popular summits in the Lake District with many routes to the top, and one of my favorite summits! Great Gable from Wasdale appears to look like a Pyramid and this image is used as the Lake District National Park logo.
Great Gable has cliffs to the North and South with the most famous being the Napes. The Napes are important in the history of English rock climbing as the ascent of the detached pinnacle of Napes Needle in June 1886 is thought by many to mark the origins in England of rock climbing.
Easiest way: From Seathwaite via the Breast route, starting from Sty Head.
Classic Scramble: The Climbers Traverse and Threading the Needle, however these are serious scrambles only for those with plenty of scrambling experience!
Fact: Every year on Remembrance Sunday, hundreds of people climb to the summit of Great Gable to attend the service of Remembrance around the memorial on the summit.
