You are invited to participate in the inaugural "SSU Alumni Book Club.". These reading and relational groups will be hosted throughout the year and coordinated via private Facebook channels on our page. Each book study will include opportunities to Zoom with authors and participants while you read on your own time and engage together on Facebook.

Our featured book this winter is "Yet in the Dark Streets Shining: A Palestinian Story of

Hope and Resilience" by SSU alumna, Mercy Aiken and Bishara Awad.

We will be meeting monthly from January through March. Mercy will be joining us to introduce the background of her book in January! We will participate in a robust discussion in February as an alumni community, and then in March, Mercy will return with friends from the Network of Evangelicals for the Middle East to discuss how we can support and stand in solidarity to alleviate suffering in the Middle East.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE

This month we feature, “A Corporate Gathering for Lament,” the collaborative liturgical efforts of JFI alumni, Amy Armistad and Marisa Lapish.

This free downloadable resource includes prayer, ritual, poetry, and silent reflection to be used in your families and communities to facilitate group lament. The liturgy offered would be appropriate to use for Advent, to remember Palestine and Israel, or for a Longest Night Service on the evening of the Winter Solstice.
