🔧 Repairs?

The current turnaround for a basic tune is 10-12 days. It's spring and everyone wants their bike fresh for the season. Walk-ins are welcomed, and appointments are appreciated. Please call 541-719-1213 to schedule.

Please note that certain parts are still taking longer than usual to get because of increased demand and industry shortages.

🚲 Bikes?
Unbelievably bikes are starting to show up at a rate we haven’t seen in years! Stop in to see what’s new.

🔨 Remodel Pictures?
We know, we’ve promised remodel pictures two months in a row, and unfortunately, now three. Getting new equipment is taking longer than expected. We have confidence next month we’ll finally be able to deliver on our promise. Our apologies, we think it’ll be worth the wait 😏.

🌲 McKenzie Pass Update:

It’s such a good feeling when people start asking about the status of McKenzie Pass after winter every year!

Due to this late snow, McKenzie Pass will not open for cyclists until mid to late May. Bookmark blazinsaddleshub.com/mckenziepass to keep up on the latest information.

🕶 Stringies:

A new, unique, special-to-us product in the shop are Stringies. A string sunglass company founded by two former Blazin Saddles Crew members and Sisters High graduates, Bennett Lewis and Dan Schmidt (the one that writes these newsletters in college 😁). Come in and see why these string sunglasses are so revolutionary and support a company that could potentially be the next big thing.

Issues of Growth in Sisters 🌥

As our community grows, we need to make sure it retains its quality. Here’s an excerpt from an email from the Chamber of Commerce regarding an upcoming town hall about growth in our community:

“Growth is a six-letter, one-syllable word that can conjure up a multitude of ideas, scenarios, fears, options, and consequences. Growth and its many impacts can give rise to differing opinions and create tension and division in a town like Sisters.

On Thursday, May 12, Citizens4Community and The Nugget Newspaper are cosponsoring a town hall dealing with “Keeping Sisters, Sisters” while dealing with rapid growth and development. Rather than taking diametrically opposed positions, the citizens of Sisters Country have an opportunity to gather for two hours of education and discourse and hopefully come away with a better understanding of growth in our community. The ideal would be to find areas of consensus and collaboration with which to work toward common goals.

To begin a meaningful conversation about growth, an understanding of Oregon land use law is essential. Without those basics, it is too easy to end up going down disparate rabbit holes, the result of which is ultimately frustration and division. Deschutes County Administrator Nick Lelack will provide the necessary overview of those laws.

To understand what it means to “Keep Sisters, Sisters,” knowledge of the town’s history and development is key. Debbie Newport, who grew up in Sisters and still lives here, is the panelist who will describe where Sisters has come from and why we want to maintain its special nature.

City Community Development Director Scott Woodford will explain what was learned from the Visioning process about what the citizens deem as important. He will review the city’s construction history and current building trends, regulated by building codes and City ordinances.

City Manager Cory Misley will explain the City’s long-range plans, the current state of the City, traffic issues, infrastructure, and City service updates.

What is needed to get enhanced health services in Sisters will be addressed by Robin Meter of the St. Charles Health System. He will explore and update possible extended hours, weekend services, and telemedicine.

One of the topics that has been the source of many discussions over the past few years is how to provide affordable housing options in Sisters and within the county. Most locals are very aware of the shortage of affordable housing in Sisters both to own and rent. David Brandt with HousingWorks will explain what is “affordable housing,” and what can be done to make it more available.

The town hall will take place at the Sisters Fire Department community hall on Thursday, May 12. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for coffee and light snacks, with the program running 6 to 8 p.m.”.

Sisters Trail Alliance Update🌲

Get up, Get Out - Volunteer!

We are managing our volunteers through the Better Impact portal so that we can communicate directly with those interested in helping out and capture your work hours so you become eligible for a FREE Northwest Forest Pass at the end of the year (16 or more hours gets you one!).

When you sign up, you can tell us how you'd like to help. If you don't see your area of interest listed (for example "events" is currently not in the list - we're working on that), drop an email to info@sisterstrails.org and let us know.

We are planning regular work parties to get the trails in shape for the season. STA will be supporting several events this year including the Sisters Stampede, the Oregon Cascades 100 and Three Sisters Skyline races as well as showing up at the Sisters Farmers Market and other local events. We also plan to revive our popular "Toast the Trails" gatherings. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved!

Spring as we know it in Central Oregon is on the way. A little of this (sun), a little of that (snow), and everything in between. But one thing is certain, STA is gearing up for a year of trail work, events and activities. And now is the time to let us know you want to be involved!

Central Oregon Trail Alliance April Update 🗳

From COTA Trail News - April:

We’re kicking off the trail work season with a spring fundraiser to support all the work we have planned. The days of a couple of shovels and beers are sadly gone - it currently costs $40-70K to plan and build 1 mile of new trail and annual maintenance on Central Oregon’s 500 miles of singletrack costs around $250K.

COTA is 100% funded by donations from riders like you!

During April, donate $100 and get a COTA bike strap for your flat fix-it kit, $150 for a limited edition COTA 30th anniversary beanie or $250 for both. Click here to donate. Thank you for supporting trails!

Sisters Chapter:

Work event alert! Come join us at Bike Park 242 on Saturday, April 9th to get the skills park shaped up for the season. You can sign up at the Meetup link here.

Oregon Timber Trail Update 🪓

The time has come. Registration is now live for our first four stewardship events.

When the OTT was getting started we know the biggest challenge would be maintaining the trail year after year. We’ve come to love trail work as much or more than simply riding a trail. It’s a great way to spend time on the OTT, to get to know the trail intimately, to get to know fellow volunteers. There is a genuine camaraderie that develops at trail work parties.

We asked a few of our repeat volunteers, sponsors, board members why they do trail work on the OTT, and this is what they had to say…

Why do trail work?

2022 Oregon Timber Trail Stewardship Events:

Watson Fire #1 (Fremont-Winema National Forest) - May 27-30

Watson Fire #2 (Fremont-Winema National Forest) - July 1-4

Brattain Fire (Fremont-Winema National Forest) - June 10-12

Old Cascade Crest (Willamette National Forest) - July 16-17

Race:

OTT 700 Grand Depart - Lakeview, OR - July 9-10

This Month's Must Watch 📺

Lightfall shares the story of legendary MTB photographer Sterling Lorence and his process to get the perfect shot in the dank and misty mountains of Vancouver's legendary North Shore, with riders Jackson Goldstone and Brett Rheeder.

We hope this Monthly Roundup brought you value. Please don’t hesitate to respond to this email with thoughts or feedback. Thanks again for being a part of the Roundup!
