Ciao Wellness Friend,
I hope this e-mail finds you safe and well.
How are you New Year's Resolutions going? Did you know that legends suggest these were invented 4,000 years ago in Ancient Babylonia?
Did you know that January 12th is considered "Quitter's Day"? That is, the second Friday in January is when most people abandon their good intentions and quit on their New Year Resolutions.
Instead of throwing in the towel, feeling defeated, and giving up all together on your Resolutions, you can change your outlook on them and focus on the process. In his most recent podcast, Steven Barlett talks to Dr. Arthur C Brooks, a Social Scientist and Harvard Professor who studies happiness.
Dr. Brooks talks about the "arrival fallacy," that is, the illusion that you will find happiness once you accomplish your goal. Instead, he suggests that happiness is achieved by progress. If you focus on the feeling you will have by today's actions towards your goal, you will lead a happier and more fulfilling life.
Dr. Brooks teaches an online class at Harvard University called Managing Happiness that you can audit for FREE! I just signed up!
The course is 6 weeks, self led and it will introduce you to "cutting-edge survey tools, the best research, and trends in social science, positive psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy to help learners unlock the strategies to create a more purposeful life, full of long-lasting enjoyment and satisfaction. Managing Happiness uses philosophical and technical insights to challenge your assumptions about happiness — helping you break bad habits that hold you back and build good ones you can use for the rest of your life."
I want to be happier while accomplishing my goals. That's what I call a WIN-WIN. If you want to join me, you can sign up here!
On another note, today is the last day to sign up for the 5 Day Healthy Mind in Healthy Body Challenge I'm hosting January 22-26, 2024!
