Quality Science and Mathematics (QSM) Grant Awardees

 

 

Congratulations to the following teachers from Region 4 for being awarded the 2023 Quality Science and Mathematics (QSM) Grant.

R4SNC Celebrates Mrs. Jamesha Phillips

 

Congratulations to Mrs. Jamesha Phillips who was recently named the North Caddo Middle School Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Phillips is a teacher in our Region 4 Novice Teacher Collaborative(R4NTC). The R4NTC is a network of selected science and math teachers with less than five years of teaching experience whose aim is to contribute to the success of novice teachers. The collaborative meets once a month to provide support as well as reflect on their career and classroom.

The Energize Project  

 

The Louisiana Dept. of Education is offering a groundbreaking professional development opportunity known as the LDOE Energize Project in partnership with the Northshore Regional STEM Center and Southeastern Louisiana University Computer Science and College of Education. The LDOE Energize Project is designed for 6th-12th grade Louisiana public and charter school educators to earn their Praxis certification in Computer Science at no cost to teachers.

 

 

 

 

This project covers the registration cost of the 40 hour workshop to ensure a passing score on the Computer Science (5652) Praxis Content Area exam, along with content knowledge guidance, practice exams, and support. Upon receiving a passing score, participants will receive a stipend of $350. There are five Cohort options available, featuring both virtual and hybrid learning.

The Ignite Project

Recruitment is still ongoing for The Ignite Project. This project aims to introduce basic computer science principles to K–5 students in Louisiana by offering a no-cost 40-hour Ignite workshop for educators, utilizing resources like Code.org, Scratch, Micro:bits, and robots, with stipends provided upon completion. Details of the first training session for educators in the Region 4 area are below.

Rockefeller State Wildlife Scholarship

The Rockefeller State Wildlife Scholarship is a competitive scholarship that awards $2,000 annually to undergraduate and $3,000 annually to graduate students pursuing a degree in forestry, wildlife or marine sciences at a Louisiana Public College or University. The cumulative maximum award is $12,000 for three years of undergraduate study and two years of graduate study.

Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, eligible non-citizens, and Louisiana residents for at least one year prior to the award year.

Louisiana NASA EPSCoR's

Research Awards Program (RAP) 

NASA EPSCoR's Research Awards Program (RAP) is a unique opportunity for Louisiana researchers to collaborate with NASA on small-scale projects. Sponsored by NASA and the Louisiana Board of Regents, the RAP provides seed grants of $30K-$40K for projects aligned with NASA's mission. Researchers must have a NASA contact and submit a proposal with a NASA Collaboration Development Plan.
