ASA Books Celebrates Dr. King

Today, ASA Books celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It is on this day, many of us stop and say thank you to a man who lived and died for a cause bigger than himself, but whose life’s purpose has outlived his earthly presence and continues to impact the world.

ASA Books is taking the time to celebrate the life lessons Dr. King lived and taught. We will be reminded on this day of the importance of understaing the true value of education, actively practicing equality, non-violent strategies to reach a resolution, and above all, love.

ASA Books January Activity List:

Below are a list of service projects and activity projects to try with the kids!

Write Letters

Let your kids pick a recipient — service members, front-line workers or elderly residents in your closest nursing home — to send letters and hand-drawn pictures.

Decorate Kindness Rocks

If your kids are artists, painters or just like to get messy, consider helping to decorate Kindness Rocks. Add sayings that MLK championed, like “Dream,” “Equality” and “Character.”

Shovel Snow or Pick Up Trash

Help beautify your neighborhood with a trash pickup or shovel snow from the sidewalks and driveways of elderly neighbors.

Create A I Have A Dream Mobile: With pieces of paper, some string and a hanger, have the kids write out what their dreams are. Cut, tape and hang.

Write Your Own I Have A Dream Speech. Listen to King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Then, on a separate piece of paper have children express their dreams for the world in a format similar to King's speech.
