Australian-born, Los Angeles-based artist Ricky Swallow crafts enigmatic, surreal sculptures from the most ordinary of materials. Though his recent “object studies” take final form in patinated and painted cast bronze, they begin by manipulating such humble things as rubber bands, cardboard, and foam. In works like Horoscope #11 Swallow transforms these everyday domestic items into elegant, often abstract compositions that precisely capture the poetry of physical forces, including the passage of time.
