December 2022

Merry Christmas 🎄

Hello all you festive subscribers and welcome to my December newsletter. I love the end of year for reflecting on the previous 12 months, and it has certainly been a happy sewing time for me. I completed only a handful of projects but I relished each one. I have worn each of them regularly, seeing the joy in wearing everyday clothing that I've made vs something special that I've bought.

Workshops and courses

Having limited time for sewing means I love to learn and advance my knowledge in each project, and so I have signed up to several workshops in the new year. As well as being a valuable and efficient way of learning for me, the commitment to attend ensures I dedicate time to sewing.

In January I start an 8 week online course with Lynda Maynard to sew up the Sienna Maker Jacket by Closet Core Patterns. It is held in the US but thankfully I can still attend the live classes at 6pm here in the UK. This is a stretch goal for me given my experience so far, but I love a good challenge. I am currently making a toile to get a head start with my fitting.

In February I'm attending a workshop for Developing Your Overlocker Skills at Guthrie&Ghani in Birmingham. Having attended their introductory workshop for overlocking, I am looking to further my skills by making a dress in a drapey jersey fabric in this course. They have a choice of designs to sew and I have chosen the Stasia Dress by Sew Liberated. I mentioned in my last newsletter that I was fitting a knit bodice block. It has had to take a back seat with general busyness towards the end of the year, but I intend to resume it to help fit this dress.

In March I am attending the Classic Blazer Workshop with Claire Tyler. Again this is a stretch goal for me but I'm sure I will learn so much, plus I love a mini sewing retreat where I get to stay away!

There is a lot for me to look forward to next year, and I look forward to sharing my progress. Thanks for watching :)
