Thoughts of the Week

Well, it has been hard adjusting, yet again, to being in lockdown here in the UK and not knowing when it will end or even if we will ever truly get back to normal. We've lost count of the amount of times we've had to say to ourselves, "You are so lucky" or "Count your blessings!" And we do have to try a look for joy in the little things and appreciate what we have. But we also shouldn't dismiss how we are feeling. These are unprecedented times and the upheaval to our lives affects people in different ways. Rebecca has been dealing with some mental health issues with one of her foster daughters (not helped by the loss of their father at the beginning of last year). It is such a tough time for everyone and our love goes out to all who are struggling or have suffered loss.

We find that, though we can't see each other or friends in person at the moment, it does help to make sure to take time to do something together as a family, even if it is just a movie or game night, and to get outside, away from our screens and to get some fresh air. We are fortunate to live close to some really lovely countryside. The picture below shows some beautiful swans at nearby Doffcocker Lodge!

What we're Reading this Week

Huntley by Stacy Eaton

I was drawn to this book as the heroine, Daniella, is an author of romantic suspense! I really sympathised with her when she thought she was going to lose all the work she had done on her laptop - the story begins when she has to escape a house fire, with the help of her fabulous, very protective dog, Trigger, and the attractive, eponymous hero of the story, firefighter Huntley Young.

It’s clear, from the beginning, that Daniella has a traumatic past and issues that she is unwilling to reveal, that hinder the burgeoning relationship between herself and Huntley.

Will her secrets push him away or will she realize that what they have is worth fighting for?

If you like firefighters, interesting characters, family dynamics and, of course, dogs, then you will love this small-town romance.

What we're Reading this Week

I have both of the books below on my TBR list and I am struggling to choose! Am I in the mood for a mind-bending thriller or do I fancy snuggling up with lots of easy-to-read, scintillating romance stories?

I think I'm going to start them both and see which one grabs me! Either way, they are sure to provide the escapism I'm craving at the moment!
