As the world turns, the seasons dance with grace, carrying with them an intricate tapestry of changes and meanings in a timeless dance where nature transforms itself with purpose. The Kaurna people hold a rich and ancient understanding of the land and its cycles and bear witness the rebirth of life that spring brings. Ancient cultures from around the world bear witness to this archetypal experience of rebirth from the dark and cold depths of winter. Stories such as Demeter and Persephone, Isis and Osiris, Inanna and Ishtar all offer us similar themes in the form of death and rebirth. Spring breathes new life into the world after the slumber of winter. As we transition from the cool embrace of winter into the warmth and vitality of spring, we invite you to join us in celebrating this remarkable transformation. In Kaurna knowledge, the arrival of spring, also known as Wirltuti, is marked by the blossoming of native flora, the return of migratory birds, and the subtle shifts in the winds and temperatures. It's a time when the land awakens from its dormancy, revealing the intricate interplay of life forces that have sustained it for millennia. Their wisdom is a reminder of the deep connections that exist between humans and the natural world, connections that are often overlooked in our fast-paced lives. As the rest of the year progresses we hope that you develop a profound appreciation for the beauty and significance of spring, not just as a season on the calendar, but as a time of rebirth, growth, and reconnection with the earth. May you be inspired to see this changing seasons in a new light, fostering a deep connection to the world around us and a sense of stewardship for the planet we all call home. Wirltuti blessings from Abbi and Shani |

In the mid 2000s ASEA was the driving force that brought streamed Steiner education to South Australian public schools, with the first Stream starting in 2005 at Trinity Gardens School. Our primary focus was, and still is, to ensure affordable and authentic Steiner education within Steiner Stream schools in the greater Adelaide area. These streams run within public schools, and so don’t attract the same fees as private schools, but there are still costs which come with authentic Steiner education experiences. These might be for music lessons, instrument hire, camps or excursions, or even special materials. It’s been almost 20yrs since the first Steiner Stream school in South Australia opened and we still have a commitment to helping maintain this affordability. One of the ways we do this is by providing bursaries to families in need. These are funded by ASEA membership fees. When you become a member of ASEA Steiner Stream children benefit. Lead by example and join ASEA today. Play a part in maintaining a child’s education, and their connection to their class and school community. Visit our website to learn more about ASEA’s initiatives. ASEA members are parents, grandparents, teachers, school leadership, and our greater community. Thank you for your commitment to affordable and authentic Steiner Education in South Australia. |

In week 9, Class Fives came together from Sheidow Park and Trinity Gardens Steiner streams and Willunga Waldorf School. This first-time event deepened the students' understanding of ancient Greek culture and was held in addition to the upcoming Greek Olympics. Named for the Greek God Apollo, the event was a tournament of the minds and hearts. "It was a fun experience involving games, music, performances and art". |

The Sheidow Park Steiner community enjoyed a wonderful Spring Festival held on the final Tuesday of the term. The weather was kind and we all enjoyed traditional songs and dances, with something a little different being a Filipino stick song from Class 5 and a Maori stick song courtesy of the Class 6 students. All classes have been super busy - with some highlights being a local Spring in Nature Main Lesson in Class 1, Celtic Tales in Class 2/3, a camp to Douglas Scrub in Class 4, Class 5 heading to the Botanic Gardens for their Main Lesson and Class 6 presenting their Roman play. Our Receptions have enjoyed settling into routines with some new teachers, and really got their hands busy with a whole school Mud Afternoon in week 9. Our term culminates on the last day of week 10 with a local excursion to the newly opened Glenthorne National Park for a day of Spring nature play. And then restful holidays prior to throwing ourselves into everything that term 4 brings! |

We were blessed with a perfect day for Spring Festival this year. Following the acknowledgement of Country, our teacher and parent choir kicked off the Festival with a beautiful gospel-style rendition of 'I can see clearly now'. The students followed with enthusiastic choir singing and Class Four danced the maypole beautifully, accompanied by Class Five strings ensemble. Each class then presented their dance and the Festival concluded with a whole-community dance and shared picnic. |

The Eyre Peninsula Waldorf School Initiative is working towards opening our school doors in Port Lincoln, SA in 2024. The initiative has worked tirelessly for almost 5 years in order to provide alternative education to the Eyre Peninsula Community. As a board, we have identified four main pillars that will see us open our school doors. They are: registration documentation, funding, finding our first teacher/s and school site. We are keeping these themes at the forefront of our minds in all the activities we participate in and decisions we make.
The very exciting news for us, is we are part way through the registration documentation and have found a school site for next year! The next step is to apply to have the location approved as an education institution through council. We are making some incredible progress and hope this will continue.
Another huge step in our journey is the conversations we are having with potential teachers. This is a wonderful and fulfilling step, as it is the heart of why we are working so hard. The teaching staff will be another exciting and important part in our school puzzle.
One area we continue to find challenging is the funding required in order to remain financially viable until the government recurrent funding commences. Preliminary budget assessments confirm we require a minimum of approximately $75,000 in order to open our doors and remain financially viable. We are working on a number of ways we can obtain this funding; through fundraising activities, financial pledges and donations and we are hoping with positive, tangible steps in the right direction we will encourage financial support from those who are able to contribute.
We continue to lease the block on which we will build our forever school and the development application continues to evolve alongside the school opening. We will open the school doors offsite, build the community and our funds and then build on our land once we are able. The block is still wounded by the fires that tore our space apart in February, however there are signs of regrowth and strength among the sadness. With fire brings rebirth and it is no different for our beautiful future school block.
We currently hold a MGM (monthly general meeting) in the hopes we keep our community engaged and informed. We then write a blog on the information discussed and post it on our website. This has been a wonderful way in which to keep people up to date with the forever changing landscape that is this initiative!
Thank you for taking an interest and reading our update! Renee Perchard Chairperson |
