>>Wrapping up Year Three<< |
Dear All, As we came to end of year three we had some time to celebrate and reflect on the students' and the school's achievements. In a holistic education environment, achievement can look different for everyone; for some it may be what you readily expect at school such as learning a language or completing an online course; for others it might be fine tuning their drawing style or getting better at an instrument; and for some it can be the more subtle yet very impactful skills like gaining the confidence to speak in meetings, making new friends or exploring their talents and needs. We celebrate all of these achievements and are so very proud of all of our students! |

The last few weeks of school gave a few opportunities to enjoy the sun and have fun together. These included a great water fight at school, a boat trip in Glengarriff habour and some more work in our vegetable garden: |
At Easter we had celebrated our third graduate, who built a herb garden as her project and chose to give her graduation speech in the woods by her favourite tree. The students have been shaping the graduation process as the school progresses giving them the opportunity to design their own education. |

In March we hosted an international exchange with students from a Sudbury School in Seattle, WA (USA) - the Clearwater School! This was an amazing opportunity to share, learn and play together. A group from our school are now working towards going to Seattle next school year. |

Awards - Courses & an Exhibition |

On the last day of school the three students who recently completed their Gaisce Bronze award gave a presentation of their expedition as a part of an end of year exhibition. Amongst a plethora of exhibition pieces, the students enjoyed showing off their art work, a map drawing project and an archaeology project. We also got to enjoy the students’ culinary skills, enjoying their sushi and baked goods. And of course we had cake to celebrate the summer birthdays and a school leaver who is moving on to her next educational step. We couldn't be more proud! |

We’ve said 'hellos' and 'goodbyes' to students and staff this year - some of which we are eagerly awaiting to return in 2024 to listen to the stories of their adventures! We know this model of school is very radical and different and not for everyone, but we see the core culture of WCSS growing and our students embracing and thriving with the space and opportunities this model affords them. |
