Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit

The CSIU has received a Community Health Worker Training grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).  Our project is SYNCH – Supporting Your Needs in Community Healthcare.  The purpose of the project is to strengthen and expand the public health workforce through the training of new Community Health Workers (CHW) and to extend the knowledge and skills of those already working in this type of position.  An ideal participant is someone who is committed to working on behalf of their community’s well-being.  SYNCH covers a 26-county area in northcentral and northeastern PA.

Financially SYNCH is able to support participants by covering the cost of the Community Health Worker core training, the application fee for certification through the PA Certification Board, and up to $6000 in stipends are provided when participants reach various benchmarks along their journey.  All participants are paired with a SYNCH staff member who supports them through the process of CHW training/certification.

Those interested in learning more about SYNCH should contact Ann Miller, amiller@csiu.org, 814-777-7213 or complete an interest form at www.csiu.org/synch.  SYNCH is an opportunity for individuals who are new to community health and those who are currently working in the healthcare/social service sector.  Your clients and new or experienced staff might be interested in this opportunity.
