December 2019 Newsletter

#CommunityIsHealing

Our final month of 2019 was full of making memories together and setting goals for the new year. We are excited to see where 2020 takes us, and are looking forward to growing as we reach more and more young adults in our area. The last few months of 2019 were not without difficulties for many in our community.  In the final weeks of the year, we lost 3 "Boonies" who were very valuable members of our local community, as well as obviously very precious to their family and friends. We mourn the time we won't have with them, but celebrate the difference-making lives they each led, even in the midst of their cancer diagnoses. Please take a few minutes to read about 3 of our friends, and keep their families and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they begin 2020 missing them.

In Loving Memory of:

Todd Cathcart   Tommy Henry   Stephanie Strock

Courage Club Corner

Members of our Courage Club, together with their families, attending a Breakfast with Santa in December.  Thanks to the generosity of so many who helped make this event a success. Our Courage Club families look forward to their photos with Santa each year and Arthur Ellis Photography lovingly donated services to our event. Boon Project Board Members and volunteers helped set up the donated space at St. Andrews Parish UMC and Apple Spice provided a yummy breakfast at a discounted price to help make this event free for all our Courage Club families.

Upcoming Courage Club Events

January: Courage Club Happy Hour! Date TBD. Watch CC Page for details.

February: Bowling at Stars & Strikes. Watch CC Page for details.

Fitness Force!

For the next few months, our Fitness Force volunteers and coaches will be focused on our 5k training through Ulman Foundation's Cancer to 5K program.  We have a huge team this year and even added another weekday practice option to better meet the needs of our survivors! 8 weeks to go...

Thank you to Fleet Feet in Mt. Pleasant and Summerville for working with our survivors and sherpas on our Cancer to 5k team to make sure they are race day ready! Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
