GRADUATION 2021 Our first graduation was a special occasion! We commemorated with a beautiful dinner, followed by the graduation ceremony on the following evening. |
|
|
On the evening of June 2, the graduates of the sixth and twelfth grades, along with their parents, grandparents, school board members, teachers and other staff, volunteers and their spouses enjoyed a beautiful catered dinner in the school gym to celebrate the special occasion. |

The graduation ceremony was held the following evening, June 3 and was combined with a year-end closing program. After the graduation address, there were messages by the school board and by the secondary learning center supervisor, and speeches by the graduates. All the students sang several selections together, joined in the final song by all the staff, board and volunteers as a parting wish for our senior graduate. We all enjoyed a powerpoint presentation, put together by the 11th grade girls as a snapshot of the year in pictures. The elementary students also recited small, cute poems to individually thank the mothers and volunteers who had given so many hours of their time throughout the school year, along with a potted flower. Each poem was unique to the person it was about, but no names were given, so the volunteers had to guess! After the ceremony, everyone was invited to congratulate the graduates, and join in the gym for refreshments. It was a special close to an eventful, yet wonderful school year. It is our prayer that something may remain with our students of the instruction given, for their eternal profit. |

ANNELISE JOHANNA FLUIT 12th grade Annie, as our first senior graduate, graduated with honors from DLIGR. She was accepted into 3 different local colleges, and hopes to attend Calvin University in the fall to begin her studies in Nursing. Annie was always our piano player for singing, joined the bulletin board committee to decorate our hallways, and poured her (extra!) energy into building our library. She will be missed next year as a student! But we were happy to know that she plans to return one day a week as librarian and elementary learning center volunteer. Congratulations from all of us at DLIGR, Annie! |

PURITY JEPKIRUI 6th grade Congratulations on completing 6th grade, Purity! She plans to join the secondary learning center next year, and her smiling face will be missed in elementary! Purity was born in Kenya, and grew up there until a few years ago, when she moved to the Netherlands with her family, and from there to Grand Rapids, MI. She is the only student in elementary that has lived on three different continents! |

WELCOME BABY On June 12, our secondary learning center supervisor, Mrs. Nicole Verhoef and her husband Nico, were blessed with the safe arrival of a precious son - Hendrik Jan. Next school year, D.V., Mrs. Verhoef hopes to spend more time at home with her family, and a little less time at school! While Mr. Jeremy Fluit plans to take over the supervising of the HS learning center and administrative roles, we look forward to seeing Mrs. Verhoef at school when she teaches Spanish II! |

The first weeks of summer were an enjoyable and much-needed break from the busyness of school life! However, preparations are now well underway for the coming school year, the Lord willing. A few highlights: |
|
|
In July our new administrator, Mr. Jeremy Fluit and his family were brought safely to Grand Rapids. The Lord opened the way so that the border crossing was uneventful for both the family, and the moving truck. They have settled in temporarily in a rental house, until they find a suitable home to purchase. We would like to extend a warm welcome to Grand Rapids! |

RENOVATIONS The remodeling projects are well on their way at school! Walls have been removed, another wall built, ceiling tile put in, and many gallons of paint and primer already used as we freshen the rooms with a new coat of paint. Over the next several weeks, we hope to wrap up the work inside and begin setting up the learning centers, teaching classrooms, Remedial room, the office, and the library. We have also purchased a used playground this summer, and have been preparing for set up. Excavation of the area is complete, and assembly is beginning. We very much appreciate the many hours of help already given this summer. |

A FEW OTHER NOTES - Our annual Parent Meeting was held on August 3. School board members were re-elected by majority vote, and the building modifications, financials and enrollment numbers were reviewed. Other items discussed were staffing for the new school year, the handbook, discipline policy, dress code and the option of looking into bus service.
