June Newsletter

Pastor Dale Tremper is excited about the new opportunity he will have to join with and guide the people of the Alum Rock UMC in the next phase of our life together.  He does not have a dramatic “conversion story” to tell, having been a “lifer” in the church.  Educated at the finest schools in the country (ask me if you like), he has served in mostly urban, multiethnic contexts by choice, all his life.

Dale is the proud and grateful father of two unique and wonderful adult children who are the parents of the best grandchildren a man could have.  Son Arrington is a touring musician and artist, based in Olympia, WA; his daughter Luci is taking a new adventure in NYC following her graduation from the University of Washington.  His daughter Stephanie is a UM Deacon, serving as a Chaplain at Kaiser Hospital, San Leandro. Dale will be living with daughter Stephanie and Jeremiah, with Ollie (7) and Alex (almost 1) in the Oakland Hills.  After a 45 year marriage to Sherron, Dale and the family lost her in 2015, following the ravages of kidney cancer, which she faced with incredible faith and courage.

“My appointment to Alum Rock on a half time basis enables me to live life to its fullest.  I still have so much to learn, so many ways to keep growing and giving, so much grace to pass along.  Sometimes I even have some wisdom to share.  We are in this adventure of faith, life and discipleship together.”

Plan to meet Pastor Dale on July 7th during worship!

Father's Day Quote

Celebrating Pride

During this Month

For one human being to love another human being; that is perhaps the most difficult task that has been entrusted to us, the ultimate task, the final test and proof, the work for which all other work is merely preparation.

Loving does not at first mean merging, surrendering, and uniting with another person—it is a high inducement for the individual to ripen, to become something in him/herself, to become world in him/herself for the sake of another person;  it is a great, demanding claim on her/him, something that chooses him/her and calls her/him to vast distances…

Once the realization is accepted that even between the closet people infinite distance exist, a marvelous living side-by-side can grow up for them, if they succeed in loving the expanse between them, which gives them the possibility of seeing each other as a whole and before an immense sky.
