Hello, Art and Design Friends!I hope your holiday season has been heartwarming for you. I love reflecting upon the joy, hope, peace, and love this season can bring -- feeling gratitude for others as I write holiday cards, finding a perfect gift to celebrate loved ones, making homemade gifts from our garden, embracing the Christmas Story of the Christ Child, and feeling the warmth of friends at Christmas gatherings. This poem found me, and I wanted to share it with you. The joy it expresses seems to be such an authentic, heartfelt experience, rather than the tinseled holly-jolly that often surrounded us this time of year (which can actually be pretty fun and festive sometimes!). If you have a moment to take a break from the season's hustle and bustle, quietly reflect on joy and how it has manifested in your life. I was grateful for the gift of this poem. I wish you moments of joy this holiday season and throughout 2024! Warmly, Cindy P.S. If your inbox is maxed out, you're always welcome to unsubscribe at the bottom of the page. Thank you! |

JOY CHOSE YOU Joy does not arrive with a fanfare, on a red carpet strewn with the flowers of a perfect life. Joy sneaks in, as you pour a cup of coffee, watching the sun hit your favourite tree, just right. And you usher joy away, because you are not ready for it. Your house is not as it must be, for such a distinguished guest. But joy cares nothing for your messy home, or your bank-balance, or your waistline, you see. Joy is supposed to slither through the cracks of your imperfect life, that’s how joy works. You cannot invite her, you can only be ready when she appears. And hug her with meaning, because in this very moment, joy chose you. – Donna Ashworth |

A Shared Joy Some of my best experiences are those that are shared. I bicycled along the Animas River Trail one August evening, heading home from my art studio. I followed the colorful progression of a cloud to the north, changing into the most breathtaking hues of oranges and golds. As I crossed the pedestrian bridge near my home, there was an explosion of color in its Animas River reflection. I stopped to join four others who were breathing in the same scene. This shared, joyful moment was impactful, with us all silently in awe of the splendor, wearing the same silly grin on our faces. I captured the memory of this moment on canvas -- I hope you enjoy it, too. |

Gluten-Free Dutch Babies This is a genuinely joyful meal! My kids used to love to watch through the oven window in amazement as the Dutch Baby rose right out of its pan as it's baking. (Don't open your oven door to peek as it bakes, or it may fall dramatically!)
This recipe is easier to make than a batch of pancakes, and it's loaded with protein from its 4 eggs, so a topping of cut fruit or stewed apples will make a complete meal. Its rich, custardy flavor will taste like a treat, and a quick cleanup of only two dishes will also leave you pampered!
Enjoy -- this is a fun one! | | |
