February 2022

Starting with Meditation

I've started this year in meditation. Taking time to enjoy family during the holidays - to relax with my love in the evenings - to think about the year to come. What are my goals personally? Professionally? For my art?

In 2021, I kicked butt when it came to my art! As they say, I 'chased the holidays,' challenging myself to create seasonal illustrations essentially every month. When I had downtime, I was doing pet portraits and pop-ups in Ballston Spa and Cooperstown. It was a ride!

But this year is different, and it was always going to be.

This year, James and I are getting married!

Planning a wedding, and saving for our future to come has led to many changes in our home and naturally shifted our current focus, so I decided to start the year slow and to think about what I want to accomplish (while resting from the most insane year for my art yet, haha).

So far, I have let my pen hit the paper to create this fox. ** Replicating him in three different colors (gold, silver, then green) as a form of meditation and with hopes that this is the theme for 2022.

Self-care above all else.

Life is busy. There isn't a day that my journal doesn't have an exceptional to-do list alongside my brain dump. Now, I even have a separate planner specifically for the wedding where I have created a series of deadlines and tasks as we approach our big day.

But this year, I plan to take control over my routine to include the preservation of self above all things. Since the beginning of covid, I believe we all have been slammed against an invisible wall over and over again. Not seeing our family or friends as we should. Not getting into the world to explore as we should. Hyper focusing on projects around the home to distract ourselves from the current world we are in... (or is that just me...?).

This year, I look to accomplish my personal goals above my professional ones. I want to establish a routine that starts with healthy food, moving my body, and I want to focus on the parts of life that provide me with pure joy...

Art, of course.

But also - reading, writing, nurturing my plants.

As we continue to discover our new normal in this world, I hope you can join me in finding focus in the positive and falling in love with life again. Let's keep it simple and support each other in kindness. Let's take it slow and build on everything we have accomplished during such a traumatic time.

Let's take it one day at a time.

xxx, Kristin

** You can find all three framed foxes at Boho Chic in Ballston Spa, NY! No prints will be available. They are one of a kind.

With a focus on 'do more of what you love' let's start with...

What am I reading?

Girl, 11 by Amy Suiter Clarke

Not my usual grab, but WOW this book is gripping. I feel my breath physically change the deeper into the story I read. Superexcellent! I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to devour a book right now. The writing is phenomenal!
