COVID-19 in Haiti Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Haiti are increasing. Currently, there are about 100 new cases per day. As of 5/28/2020, Haiti counted more than 1,300 official cases, including 30 deaths, though the estimated cases are much higher. Kay Blada is operating, but everyone is required to wear a mask, and no more than 6 people are allowed inside of the recycling center. Sadly, due to lack of funding, KBR had to stop its Door-To-Door COVID awareness and education efforts. Our last intervention was in our neighborhood, where we distributed over 100 kits (masks, soap, and brochures about COVID). To help us restart this service, donate here: |

Mother's Day in Haiti Today is Mother's Day in Haiti, and Kay Blada would like to wish a "Happy Mother's Day" to all its collectors and volunteers. Many of our street collectors who bring us plastic every day are mothers and grandmothers who spend their earnings supporting their family and paying for school expenses. For this reason, Mother's Day is always a special day for Kay Blada, and normally all collectors receive a small bonus and gift. This year, COVID-19 hardships have meant we do not have the extra funds to provide this bonus, but we want all of our mothers to know that they are in our thoughts. |

Kay Blada in Cap-Haitien Kay Blada recently began collecting plastic from Cap-Haitien, a port city in northern Haiti. This was a big step towards Kay Blada's goal of being in every Haitian town. Last week, we received our 2nd load of plastic from Cap-Haitian. By collecting and recycling about 5,000 pounds of plastic per month, Kay Blada has been contributing to preventing of ocean plastic pollution in Cap-Haitien, as much of the plastic ends up on the beach. Additionally, our efforts there enable at least 10 more people to make money from collecting plastics. |

COVID-19 Emergency Relief As with many other impoverished countries, Haiti is having a difficult time dealing with coronavirus. Costs have risen drastically, but our staff and collectors depend on Kay Blada for their livelihood. If you are able to donate, we ask you to consider making a donation to help Kay Blada get through the pandemic and widespread economic hardship. More than ever, we are depending on our donors to make sure our staff can remain employed and we can continue supporting the community of Hinche. |
