Winter Weather Alert!

.....Warm and Friendly at SewGreen@Rochester.....

As most of us have heard by now, on February 2nd, Punxsutawney Phil, the little groundhog living in Gobbler’s Knob, PA, did NOT see his shadow. That means the weather should be turning warmer, and spring will be here sooner this year. No matter if the groundhog's prediction comes true or not, the colorful Witch Hazel that blooms each February is already fading, and just a couple of weeks ago we had a record breaking 63-degree day!

And if it feels cold outside perhaps you should step inside SewGreen@Rochester and you just may get that warm and spring like feeling. Lots of colorful fabric and yarn, and warm faces to greet you. Come in for a friendly conversation, a workshop, or a bouquet of specials.

What we've been up to...

Family Sewing on Saturday Mornings

Family Sewing Club on Saturday mornings is very popular. Kids of all ages (that includes you, Dad) can stop in from 11 to 1 on Saturdays and work on projects together.

Kristen, at the left, is holding a dress she made for the "Dress a girl around the World" project. This project helps to provide dresses for girls who are at risk of human trafficking. Girls from the US and all around the world are given dresses with special labels from the "Dress a Girl" project that shows someone is watching over them. For more information on this project click here:  "Dress a Girl around the World Project".

Learning to Quilt

The "Quilt Block of the Month" class started in February. The class learned how to use the measuring tools and cutting tools to cut a patchwork of fabric that became a 9-patch quilt block. Each month we will learn to create another block using modern technques and tools. The blocks will eventually become a quilt top. Join us on March 2nd for the next "Quilt Block of the Month" class where we will learn how to make the 'half square triangle' or HST for short.  Everyone is welcome to all classes, start where you left off, or start from scratch!

SEND US YOUR PHOTOS

We'd love to see what you've been working on and what you're making with supplies from our shop. Please share a photo or two with us.

Email photos with a brief description to: sewgreenrochester@gmail.com

You might see your project in our next newsletter!

Make a Fabric Wallet

February 26th  11:00AM  - 1:00PM

February 26th 4:00PM - 6:00PM

Hone your sewing skills while creating something useful. We will make wallets using small pieces of quilting cottons. Quilt Block of the Month

March 2nd 2:00 - 4:00PM

In the March class you will learn how to create that "half square triangle" in a couple of ways. Of course, measuring and cutting fabric will be reviewed. You will also be given the instructions to complete a block that uses the half square triangle (HST).

Make an Apron with Josefina

Starts Thursday March 14th

Josefina will continue to offer her popular "Make a Bag with Josefina" class on Thursdays in February. However, in March, she will offer another one of her popular and fun classes called "Make an Apron with Josefina".

Simple, elaborate, plain or fancy -- aprons are fun and easy to make. You’ll start with the basics and learn how to design, piece, add trim, and create as complicated an apron as you like. Finish something fun while learning lots of new sewing skills!
