Church Workday

Everyone is invited to help spruce up the church grounds on Saturday, March 25. There will be a breakfast of eggs, biscuits and meat at 8:00, and we will begin work around 8:30. The rain date will be April 1. Please join us in making the grounds look beautiful in time for Easter!

Youth Sunday

Join us this Sunday, March 26, as our FPC Youth lead us in worship!

New Member Reception

Congregational Care invites you to join us in the fellowship hall immediately following worship on March 26 as we honor our new members and Confirmands. Our new members are Brian Campbell, Muriel Walburn, Crystal Smith, and Mike & Elizabeth Flynn. Our Confirmands are Rome Campbell, Sullie Dodd, Clara Parsley and Lena Parsley.

Collection for Family Promise

We will be collecting over-the-counter medications and diapers to help Family Promise stock their shelves. Please drop off donations in the church library during the month of March. Thank you for your support!

Easter Lilies

This Easter, you are invited to purchase lilies in honor or memory of friends or loved ones. For each donation of $12.50, one lily will be placed in the sanctuary on Easter Sunday and the name of your honoree will be printed in the bulletin. Forms are located in the downstairs hallway. Please place the completed form and your check (payable to First Presbyterian Church) in the offering plate or drop it by the church office. Forms and money are due by Sunday, March 26.

There will be someone in the kitchen that morning by 6:30 to receive your items and get them ready for the wonderful meal of celebration! We hope to see you there!

One Great Hour of Sharing

For more than 70 years, One Great Hour of Sharing has provided Presbyterians a way to share God’s love with our neighbors in need around the world.

Millions of people lack access to sustainable food sources, clean water, sanitation, education and opportunity. The three programs supported by One Great Hour of Sharing - Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, the Presbyterian Hunger Program and Self-Development of People - all work in different ways to serve individuals and communities in need. From initial disaster response to ongoing community development, their work fits together to provide people with safety, sustenance, and hope.

Envelopes to support the One Great Hour of Sharing will be in the pews on April 2 and April 9. Please consider supporting this PCUSA effort.

Stewardship Update

As a continuation of our year-round Stewardship program, we are beginning to formalize an area of Stewardship that doesn’t get much air time at FPCM – Planned Giving. We are embracing the theme used for Advent, "Generation to Generation." Planned giving is focused on having resources on hand to continue the church’s missions through strategic preparation, and having the church financially prepared to respond to current events.

Planned giving is often seen as an end-of-life / legacy activity, such as leaving funds to support the church in a will or insurance payout. This is one strategy, but not the only one to consider.

Planned giving can take many forms and some may provide benefits for the givers now, as well. There are tax advantages with giving from long-term appreciated securities or other assets. You can gain the full tax deduction based on current value and reduce capital gains taxation. If you are more than 72 years old with a traditional IRA, you can contribute part of your Required Minimum Distribution with the same benefits as above. You might be able to increase your impact and lessen your tax burden through bundling your giving to have deductions high enough to itemize in selected years. You may be in a position where you receive an unusual payout where you have an opportunity to provide a larger offering or create a memorial in memory of a loved one. It doesn’t have to be a large value.

Planned giving is another opportunity to make a difference, to express your gratitude for the abundance you have been granted, or to leave a legacy that will support the next generation of stewards at FPCM.

Stay tuned, more to come!
