In November the House of Commons Standing Committee put out a public call [deleted extra “in November”] to submit a Brief regarding (? does this work) a study on mental health and safety in girls' and women's sport. We submitted a Brief which is available to read here. |
|
|
We discovered that weeks after the original call had gone out, and days before the deadline to submit, the purview of the study had been changed. Our Brief, and five others, of which we were aware, remained unpublished. One of the other Briefs that was submitted by elite coach Linda Blade, whose submission you may read here. We will be submitting Freedom of Information requests, among other actions, to understand where these decisions were made and by who. You can help with those efforts by donating so we can pay all the necessary bureaucratic fees. |

In the last few months a lot of hard data and studies have come out about the state of women's prisons in Canada. In late 2022 Correctional Services Canada released its study about 'gender diverse' prisoners with a lot of data (read their one page summary here or their full report here). The Macdonald-Laurier Institute just released their report this month, which you can read here. Sadly, the reports and data confirm what was already heavily suspected. Women Matter Canada will be using these reports in a targeted campaign. We will also have a guidance to submit your own targeted letters, MLAs, MPPs, and MPs. We will also be conducting our first postcard campaign, so stay tuned to find out more information about that. |

We are currently developing more resources that can be used by you and conducting investigations. By donating you can help ensure we can do more actions. Donating also helps us maintain our day-to-day operations like keeping our website online. We thank everyone who has donated, every penny helps. We also have an online store that has a variety of t-shirts, bags, stickers, door hangers, and other things to show your outward support. One of our favourite new items are our baseball caps. Retweet and share our content by following us on Twitter. Did you know we have a variety of videos that we've produced? And a good online library of reports and studies from unbiased sources on a variety of topics. You can find our letters and reports published here. Lastly, we welcome any new membership applications! |

We wouldn't be able to do all of this without your help. With that in mind we have some new items available for purchase. Shirts with the definition of woman, bilingual door hangers, and more. While the stickers are coming in too late for the Ontario provincial elections, we have general election stickers available in French and English next week. We will also be offering special election and ‘woman’ definition packages. All proceeds go towards continuing our work. |

The work we do cannot happen without the valuable time and monetary donations that have been generously made. You can help us continue with events like our FYI Event, future Postcard Campaigns, and more. We are grateful for every contribution that has been made to date. |
