“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to God’s purpose”.

– Romans 8:28

Dear Gethsemane,

On June 7th, 2021, I entered the doors of our church to begin serving among you as your new pastor.  To say that I had no idea what God may have in store for us is an understatement.  But I certainly never dreamed of the abundance that has flowed from The Spirit into this place we call Gethsemane.

There is a feeling that The Spirit is alive here!  That your inclusive and authentic welcome is what folks are looking for today.  Our children are celebrated here, not relegated to a place outside of the sanctuary.  Our young people are supported in ways that are generous and loving.

This month, 3 of our young people will be traveling to New Orleans to experience The Youth Gathering.  This “gathering” is put on by the ELCA every 3 years and it is an extravaganza!  Tyler Kraft, Kara Moehlenpah and Phoenix Spears are being SENT by you.  Because you love God and you love our kids, your generosity has fully funded a trip for our kids and 2 chaperones, Leigh Anne Spears and Heidi Swartz.

And I am “beyond words” grateful.

Simultaneously, our choir loft renovation is underway… due to the gracious generosity of a donor who would like to remain unnamed.  And, due to the hands, feet and strong arms and backs that moved literally everything out of the loft and the closets after worship on June 23.  Timpani, filing cabinets, chairs, books and more books, EVERYTHING was moved.  This was an essential piece so that the demolition and rebuilding could begin!

Once again – I am “beyond words” grateful.

My dear Gethsemane, you move me beyond words.  You remind me that God works all things for good for those who love God…

And you remind me that we are called together as disciples for a purpose determined by The Spirit.

Thank you for your willingness.  Thank you for your discipleship.  Thank you.

In love and light,

Pastor Perrie

Let’s get to know Ashley Jeske

How long have you been a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church?

We attended our first church service (it happened to be an outdoor service) at Gethsemane a little over 3 years ago. Both before & after the service, so many people greeted us & took time to talk with us & really made us feel welcome & is what kept us coming back! I’ll never forget how nervous my daughter Hannah was that morning about attending a new church & not knowing anyone, but after service ended a little girl approached Hannah & they began talking & soon were running off playing together…….. 3 years later, Hannah & Abby are still running off playing through the halls of church! This church & everyone who attends it has such an amazingly welcoming presence & that is really what kept us coming back.

What is your current occupation or volunteer position? I am a stay-at-home mom, I run my own daycare business out of my house & I teach homeschool enrichment classes at the Fieldworkshop in Greendale.

What do you love most about your industry? What I love most about working from home & teaching at the Fieldworkshop is that it allows me to be home & homeschool my daughter Hannah & I can still help provide for my family.

Who inspires you in your life? My parents & my daughter.

Growing up, my parents always encouraged me & taught me that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. They showed me what true love looks like & have always been there for me cheering me on through life.

Hannah inspires me as well, I feel so blessed to be her mom & watch her grow & become the person God is guiding her to be. I watch her kindness & compassion for others, her determination & perseverance & I’m in awe. she inspires me to keep going & try harder every day.

What is one piece of advice you can give someone? Don’t take life for granite, time is short, make the most of it.

What are your gifts or hobbies? I enjoy spending time with my family & our many animals, plants, gardening & baking.

If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be? This is a tough question! I think I’ll have to say Tacos!

Tell us about your family or loved ones. Jim & I have been together for 18 years & married for 15, our daughter Hannah just turned 11 in May. We live in New Berlin & have 3 dogs, 2 cats, a bunny & 12 chickens!

What are your hopes and dreams that you would like to see in the future?

I would just like to continue to watch my daughter grow, take on life & accomplish her goals!

Gethsemane Baptism Sunday

We celebrated Riley Jo Ziese baptism on June 16th what a beautiful day to celebrate such a joyous occasion!

We will have our sending service for the youth group on July 14th! We are hoping that our community would write letters to our kids: Phoenix, Tyler, and Kara. So they are able to open them during the youth gathering and read all the kind words so many of you have. If you would like to be a part of this please drop off letters to the office, Pastor, Leigh Anne Spears or Heidi Swartz. Thank you!

Spirit Wear is Here!!

If you would like to purchase a Gethsemane tee you will have availability on Sundays or during the week during office hours. T-shirts are $20. Spirit Wear is a fun way to show your Gethsemane Spirit and wear for different functions we have here throughout the year!

The Demolition Begins!

We will be starting the Choir Loft demolition in July! If you will be stopping in during the week please be careful! We are so excited for this to begin! We will be posting pictures of the progress done to keep everyone involved! We want to thank all the volunteers that have helped clean out and who are working on making this a spectacular area here at Gethsemane Lutheran Church!

Twice a month we come together with the lovely people over at St. Cam’s and enjoy worship services we call Community Chapel. If you would like to be a part of these worship services we do have a sign-up sheet in the Narthex. All are welcome! Come and meet some new people and enjoy the word of God!

St. Camillus is located:

10200 W Bluemound Rd, Milwaukee, WI 53226

This is a busy month for Gethsemane!

Pastor and Gary will be traveling to the ALCM Conference from July 22nd to July 25th! We hope they have safe travels!

Music is a vital expression of Lutheran worship. The church’s song takes many forms and is expressed in many ways. By sharing the knowledge, experience and passion that honor our heritage and inspire our future, ALCM nurtures and equips those who lead music in worship. ALCM offers practical education programs and diverse resources through conferences, publications and fellowship to serve musicians of all types – from paid professionals to volunteers. By connecting servant leaders to one another and by cultivating their musical gifts, ALCM supports worshipping communities in the proclamation of the gospel.

We want to thank everyone who contributed to allow our youth to go on the 2024 New Orleans ELCA Youth Gathering!

The Gathering is a unique experience specifically designed for high school youth to grow in their faith and identity as children of God. We will join tens of thousands of fellow siblings in Christ from around the country in worship, learning, serving, and fellowship in the vibrant city of New Orleans.

In the words of the ELCA, the Youth Gathering seeks to:

·        Affirm and challenge participants in their faith

·        Create the opportunity for new experiences and perspectives on life and faith.

·        Allow participants to ponder their calling and vocation.

·        Bond with their congregational group and build new friendships with other participants.

·        Share about the ELCA and its partners.
