HCA Friends and Families,

I hope this note finds you and your families well. I’m writing today with some exciting news and a few school updates. To begin, I want to share that the HCA board and I are actively moving forward in our commitment to bring HCA to the Houston community. We will have more updates and details on this in the coming months, and greatly appreciate your continued support as we collectively move forward to bring classical education and school choice to the community.

In additional news, after much deliberation HCA superintendent Oscar Ortiz has felt called to accept a new position closer to his family in Fort Worth, and will be transitioning out of his role with HCA. The opportunity presented to Oscar provides him with a unique opportunity to bring his passion for education and devotion to family together, and was simply a win-win for the Ortiz family.

We thank Oscar for his hard work and impact on HCA, and we wish him well on his future endeavors. During this transition, he has committed to partnering with us to bring on our new superintendent. We look forward to introducing you, our community, to this individual once he/she is on board.

The heart of HCA, our continued WHY, rests in you, our families and supporters, who walk with us each day in commitment and passion to bring quality, classical education to the next generation of Texans. Rest assured that we, your HCA board, remain committed to this mission and look forward to staying in communication as our work moves forward.

I encourage you to keep reading below for additional updates. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. You can reach me directly by email here.

All my best,

Stuart Saunders

HCA Response to Houston Chronicle Article

On July 5th, the Houston Chronicle published an article targeting charter schools and HCA specifically. We do not believe the article accurately reflects the important role of charters or the mission of HCA to bring options for quality education to the students of northwest Houston.

At the link below, we are sharing a letter to the editor that our board chair, Stuart Saunders, has sent to the Houston Chronicle in response to the article. In addition, we have taken the time to outline for you, the families and supporters of our school, several points that you may have questions about from the article.

Your Letters of Support

During the June hearings, the Texas State Board of Education made a last minute change to the schedule that resulted in many of our families being unable to share their stories and testimonies. These families took time off from work, traveled to Austin, and spent the day with us in support of school choice and classical education. They deserve to have their voices and stories shared.

Their stories are important, their words are impactful, and their time is invaluable. We thank them for their support then and now as we forge forward to provide a new option for education to families in northwest Houston. Keep reading below for their stories, and check back as we add more testimonies in the coming weeks.
