Ally is a Verb - Racism Edition: Allyship, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression Training Course

Description: This Breakfast Culture training session will help you understand what it means to be an ally. Understanding your privilege, in this case White Privilege. How to use your privilege to speak up and support. Understanding how your voice may take up space in environments. Actively listening. Doing the work and learning. Understanding when to simply sit down, listen and learn. This session also teaches about racism and the ways in which it manifests including systemic racism, interpersonal racism, internalized racism and how to be anti-racist. 

This course can be customized for anti-Black racism (ABR), anti-Indigenous racism (AIR), or anti-Asian racism (AAR) among other forms of racial oppression.

Focus & Learning Outcomes: We recommend participants take Power & Privilege prior to Ally is a Verb so they understand how we all benefit from some form of privilege and how our power impacts our privileges. In each edition of Ally is a Verb we focus on one form of privilege, in this version we focus on racism and white privilege. Participants learn about...

  • Oppression and its many forms with a focus on racial oppression.  

  • Anti-oppression, anti-racism, anti-oppression, anti-Black racism (ABR), anti-Indigenous racism (AIR), anti-Asian racism (AAR), white privilege, and intersectionality.

  • The history of race relations in Canada.

  • What it means to be an ally and the different types of allies including performative allyship and true alllyship.

Ally is a Verb - Women's Edition: Allyship, Feminism, Misogyny, Patriarchy and Anti-Oppression Training Course

Description: This Breakfast Culture training session will help you understand what it means to be an ally. Understanding your privilege, in this case Male Privilege. How to use your privilege to speak up and support. Understanding how your voice may take up space in environments. Actively listening. Doing the work and learning. Understanding when to simply sit down, listen and learn. 

This session also teaches about misogyny, patriarchy and the ways in which it manifests and incorporates intersectionality concepts such as misogynoir.

Ally is a Verb - Alphabet Soup: Allyship, Homophobia, Transphobia, Heteronormativity and Anti-Oppression Training Course

Description: This Breakfast Culture training session will help you understand what it means to be an ally. Understanding your privilege, in this case Heterosexual Privilege. How to use your privilege to speak up and support. Understanding how your voice may take up space in environments. Actively listening. Doing the work and learning. Understanding when to simply sit down, listen and learn. In this session you will learn the meanings behind the myriad letters on the LGBTQQIP2SAA+ spectrum (we know that we’ve missed some letters like O & P), 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ and more).

“We reached out to Breakfast Culture to facilitate a suite of three foundational training sessions for our organization…  D&I 101, Power & Privilege and Ally is a Verb…  Jefferson is an excellent facilitator. He brings his own lived experience into many of the topics being reviewed which makes the information all the more real and authentic. He is engaging and adds many pop culture references to the training which makes it fun and further cements the learning. The activities are really eye-opening. Additionally, our staff felt comfortable enough to bring forward stories of their own which we all valued so very much. When we reached out to staff afterwards, we were thrilled that their baseline knowledge on topics such as privilege, intersectionality, microaggressions, and unconscious bias had increased significantly. Even more important, staff felt that they were now better able to ensure that they provided a safe and inclusive space for their clients."
