Your History. My History. Our History. Happy Black History Month From ASA BOOKS Each February for the past few years, ASA Books has shared with you the joy and excitement in being able to spotlight just how amazing black people, black culture and black art is in all the spaces that we occupy. And not just this month, but 365 days a year. As a black-owned, women-owned company, our purpose is to create beautiful work for children... in the form of self published books that teach literacy through themed based storytelling and engaging art. We work in a space of gratitude... being grateful for the opportunity to continue to create art through our imagery and storytelling. This month, through our social media platforms we are sharing every day, Black History fun facts. We hope you get to check us out on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ASA-Books-LLC-Childrens-Books-111940283992287 and our Instagram page: solongerobinson54 and kweenquay. Until Next Time, Happy Reading & Learning and HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH |

African American Artist Feature The Year We Learned to Fly by Jacqueline Woodson (Author), Rafael López (Illustrator) On a dreary, stuck-inside kind of day, a brother and sister heed their grandmother’s advice: “Use those beautiful and brilliant minds of yours. Lift your arms, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and believe in a thing. Somebody somewhere at some point was just as bored you are now.” And before they know it, their imaginations lift them up and out of their boredom. Then, on a day full of quarrels, it’s time for a trip outside their minds again, and they are able to leave their anger behind. This precious skill, their grandmother tells them, harkens back to the days long before they were born, when their ancestors showed the world the strength and resilience of their beautiful and brilliant minds. Jacqueline Woodson’s lyrical text and Rafael Lopez’s dazzling art celebrate the extraordinary ability to lift ourselves up and imagine a better world. ASA Books continues to be inspired by beautiful stories and this truley is one of them: A true gem! |
